G'day folks!
I'm considering building an energon axe prop to go with my existing G1 9.1 scale toy Optimus Prime costume, for non-competing use at this April's Calgary Comic Expo.

Built from plexi or similar plastic, in yellow or hopefully amber. The base of the prop would cover my hand, and conceal a grip. The shaft would be lit via a 24 LED puck just above my hand in the mounting cover. The edges of both front & back parts of the blade would be lit via multiple LED’s mounted within spaces between the blade parts & the shaft. The plastic would ‘catch’ the light by light sanding of the surface. The blade would be 3 sheets of the plastic, cut/carved & sanded to shape. I’d hope to source a hollow cylinder of plexi for the shaft; otherwise I’d have to adhere 3 layers of it to create a hollow space within to run the power wire to the upper set of LED’s. I haven't looked at how to light the base yet.
I haven’t checked the convention rules regarding this type of prop yet.
(in related news I'll be buying silver pants & a long-sleeve shirt)
What are your thoughts please?
Note: I’ve yet to test how well plexi carries light with sanded surfaces.
Thanks!
