I'm waiting for the first use of the blue laser in a 1/350 Polar Lights TOS Enterprise (whenever it comes out).
Your phasers sir, are (pardon the pun) stunning!
There is one out there. Well i''m not 100% sure it was a Polar lights but it was a big refit. When i saw it, i decided it would be a nessesity on my build.
Well i was thinking about getting one of these lasers but when i went to look at your 3rd video i found this video. I copied it to my account and i'm glad i did because now it's got the bright green laser again. I ask again, are these lasers really as bright as the videos you posted? They are not cheap and i don't want to waste my money. Thanks
The brightness can be affected by several factors:
1. The frequency of the beam: 532 Nanometers (Nm) Green is in the middle of the visible light spectrum-our eyes can see the green beam better than say red (630-650 Nm).
2. Particles in the air reflect the light beam and your eyes pick up the reflected light. The more particles the better the beam will be seen.
I added some safe smoke (from a smoke machine) to make the beam easier to see. Also the room lighting was lower than normal.
Under "normal light" say in your living room or basement, the beam shaft can be seen. It is difficult to see the beam in sunlight, even at the higher power I use (300-350 milliwatt or mW). The spot can be seen for a longer distance.
Go to the Laserpointer Forum and look around-there are several sections that laser hobbyists display 'beam shots" from different lasers/colors.
I use 150mW and up for my phaser props. The TOS Hand Phsaer I/II I built uses a 150mW, the TNG Cobra Head uses a 140mW and the assault phaser in this thread uses a 170mW laser.
I will post a video with the Assault Phaser and TOS Rifle under "normal light" conditions with and without smoke to show you the difference.
Give me until tomorrow for the video. Again, take a look at the forum for some ideas of what the beams will look like.
I have been experimenting with lasers for a while now. I am not an expert in the field of physics, but what I can stress to all is if you obtain any laser of any power, be sure YOU DO NOT:
1. "Target" people or animals-these lasers will cause instant and irreversible blindness.
2. Target motor vehicles
3. Aircraft (this has been done in several parts of the US and oversees and the beam is still intense enough to blind pilots. People that have tracked aircraft have been caught and prosecuted -it's a felony, not to mention the potential results to the pilot and passengers!).
Take care,
Bill
Did you look at the video i posted? There is NO beam, just a big dot on the wall. It is the exact same video as is on your site now but the one on your site now has a bright beam.

Umm, I just watched all the videos he posted on page 1 of this thread. The beam is present in all of them.WOW now the video you have on your site no longer has the beam.

Maybe you should just disregard his explanations & forget it. Your posts are starting to sound a little troll-ish, what with the de-railing of his show-off thread.
I'm just saying.
Is it a show off thread or a pull it over your eyes thread? I'm sorry but when a new guy shows up and his first post is of a TOS phaser that shoots bright laser beams i am skeptical. Not because i'm just skeptical, but because i have been using lasers for 20+ years and laser beams don't look like what he is posting. When this guy first posted his video i looked at the other videos in his photobucket account. This video did not have the beam. I checked a little later and the SAME video had the beam and the nonbeam video was gone. Not some other video that looks close. Thats why i was first skeptical. Yesterday i was telling my buddy about this rifle i wanted to build and there was no beam again. At this point i copied it to my account so it could not be changed again. Thats the video portion i have a problem with. Second, if with no smoke that laser makes no beam then to get a beam as bright and as intense as he is showing in his videos he would have to fill his house up with smoke. His beam is as bright as heck all the way up to the barrel. Third, there are NO laser beams made that have a wave like his videos show. Laser beams are straight as an arrow, No deflection, No wavepattern. His looks like wavepattern on my oscilloscope. He is half way to making a real lightsabre if he can control photons like that. I'm sorry i sound like a troll but he is telling people to go spend $100-300 on lasers that will not give the effect he is showing, and you calling me a troll ignores the facts. Look at the video I posted, there is no beam. Zero, nada. I done with it. Let the sheeple be led....
For what it's worth I'm on your side. That laser is too clear and perfect to do what he claims it does.
I'm not convinced.
