TOS Extra Crispy? Good photo/scan?

Does anyone have a good, non-skewed photo of some TOS style extra crispy? Maybe even a scan of a little piece?

If you are looking for some crispy; Sporak makes it. I got some from him a while back and it's perfect.

"Extra Crispy" refers to the aluminum, diamond patterned, sheet on the top of the "Star Trek" Phaser One sight hood (post Wah Chang revisions to the prop):

You crazy kids and your wacky terminology... mystery solved. :lol

gents, thanks for all the support and offers, but I'm actually just interested in a good pic or scan of some extra crispy :)

Would love to see some of the modern day finds too.

Actually, many years ago, the term "Extra Crispy" came about to describe the sharpness in the grid pattern that was seen in some some of the sheets people were finding. :)

Here's a quick batch of pics of an original I took at the Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame. I'm afraid the photography isn't the best as flash photography is not allowed and the lighting conditions are very dark. I can tell you this though, in person, the real extra crispy is much shinier than modern equivelants; it appears to be some kind of stamped mylar in appearance rather than stamped sheet aluminum:

Here is a photo of Sproak's and JLongs crispy:

Here is the crispy on the GJ. It looks like the middle of it is flattened out but you can still see the pattern near the top. This is image is from a scanner:

Hope this helps!

Feek, thanks for those great pics. Very nice, and very detailed.

HUGE thanks to Alley, who actually got me thinking about something, and MAY have me headed down the right direction. HUGE thanks.

The original extra crispy is VERY close to what I'm looking for, but not quite perfect. but some of the things that Alley said got me doing some google searches that have led to some REALLY interesting and promising results. I cannot thank you enough sir. Or madame ;)

Yeah the original material seems to be something like Mylar or heavy foil, very delicate. The crispy on the Jein phaser appears to have a fingerprint pressed into it. The replica stuff we've been using is usually thin aluminum sheet, it can look similar but is much more durable. The Task Force tool box readily available at hardware stores has an embossed aluminum covering, but it's squares instead of the elongated diamonds. Fortunately we now have Sporak's crispy available!

I've spent many hours searching google and came up with nothing, except heavy embossed aluminum with a pattern way too large.

It's "sir" :)

Here's the best shot in the "Original Series" to demonstrate the almost "rainbow effect" sheen of actual screen used extra crispy. I agree with Robn1 that it must be some sort of stamped mylar, or foil, rather than stamped aluminum sheet. You can also see demonstrated here what I also saw in the Science Fiction Museum piece in that the diamond pattern is also relatively "flat" in comparison to modern aluminum extra cripsy which demonstrates fairly deep diamond detail:

Interesting....

Here's some diamond patterned mylar "foil" in rolls:

http://www.nehydro.com/mylar-c-8.html

"Diamond patterned reflective foil reduces grow room "hot spots" by improving light diffusion and thermal efficiency.

* 97% Reflective
* Excellent light blocking capabilities
* High performance PET coating to protect from corrosion and wear
* Punched diamond pattern to diffuse light
* 4 Mil thick"

All this talk of extra crispy, now I want some KFC....

So now I learned something new today, not bad for this OLD dog.

Looks like we need more pot smokers on this board! (just kidding, of course!) There are TONS of different types of sheet mylar that is used in the "basement growing" industry. All kinds of hocus pocus lore around how it optimizes your lumens, or some such stuff. Hilarious. Still, interesting stuff.
