Torchwood - John Hart pistols?

I did a search and didn't see a thread on this yet. Any clues if these are based on a real or airsoft gun or you think they're scratch built?

i can't imagine they'd completely scratch build them. sadly, i just leech off of the gun knowledge of others here. :(

Don't know if they are scratch or not. BUT I will say that if you own series three of Doctor Who in the special features there is a tour of the studios with Freema Agyeman and one of the places she goes is the prop department. While there they show her what they have recently been working on which includes Hart's handguns. There are some really good shots to be found of the guns there. At one point she holds it with her hand flat and raises it up to the camera giving a nice clear view of the details.

I think they may be adapted from Colts, as are the traditional Torchwood pistols - only these have been bulked up, and look almost like a Beretta in size. The back of the gun slide reminds me of the Judge Dredd Lawgiver, and the grip looks kinda like the Robocop M9.

Side details are different (not quite symmetrical), they also have a small telescopic sight, kinda like Star Wars weapons.

Couple of larger, lightened pics:

Series three had an episode called 'Gridlock' and I think the gun your referring to here is the one used by the two people who Kidnap Martha

I'm definately doing this costume for Halloween this year.

Slightly off topic, as someone relatively new to America, is it OK to wear prop guns out on Halloween? I don't imagine that the police would take too kindly to this on any other night of the year...

I had remembered the prop trip but hadn't put it together. They do appear to be the same guns. In the short they're working on 2 that are the same.

Really a good character and I hope we see more Torchwood/Dr Who props in the future.

I myself plan to make a lifesize Cyberman for display or wearing I have not decided.

Although the pictures posted above pretty much shows that they are Hart's guns, another reason is that in the shop Freema mentions that one side is the "Doctor Who" side and the other is the "Torchwood" side (I believe, maybe I'm making this up at this point). Not only that but when Freema is giving the tour she mentions that the Christmas Special of Doctor Who is filming at that time. Well, the first episode of season two of Torchwood was being filmed at that time as well. And the prop guy who shows her the gun says something about the guns being recently completed for a character to use. So, with all thatin mind, plus the pictures to go off of now, I'd say it's safe to say those are his guns :)

Im guessing Airsoft, specifically Tokyo Mauri or WE Hi-capas. Im pretty sure the standard Torchwood guns are 5.1 Hi-capas. Hart's guns look to share some of the same details e.g. 2011 style trigger and oversized magazine bumper. Id hazard that there modified 5.1's or 4.3's.

i've been getting a lot of ribbing from friends about john hart... i've been working on a jack harkness costume, and people either say "jack who?" or "uh ho, looks like you'll be kissing spike at the next con!"

despite all that, i think the john hart costume is great!

depending on how much work you want to put in, i'd bet you could pick up a cheap airsoft colt and modify it heavily. you might find a gun that needs a lot more work for way less $$ than something closer...

i do think that the colt pistols look like they'd be a great base.

but, on a ever-so-slightly spoilery note, there's another scene where he carries a pair of unmodified MP5-Ks.

Thanks for the pics DStephan!

The gun in those pics appears to be a stunt version - the rectangle on the front box section looks like it curves inward in the pics I posted - probably filled to eliminate undercuts in the mold.

Comparing it to a Colt 1911, details line up pretty well. :)

i don't have any pics left of my unmodified 1911, but here it is in jayne/serenity mode:

i agree that it looks like it could be a workable base.

my trigger looked much more like the hart gun than in my pic... i filled it in and drilled the holes (i wasn't using quite the right model gun as the base)
