New to collecting BR and just want the lowdown. Both look gorgeous, I just want to invest in the closest thing to the original.
Informed opinions please:)

I have the latest Coyle model. I would say the Tomenosuke is a perfect idealized version of the blaster while the Coyle is closer to what was on screen.

Plus with Coyle, everything that is supposed to be metal is metal whereas anything out of Japan has to conform to their laws which limit how accurate your "non gun" can be and what parts cannot be metal. The Japanese ones have a lot of plastic parts and the barrel is occluded. etc

Yes the Coyle is HEAVY.

I agree with the points made above. Rich Coyle's captures the spirit of the movie based prop whereas the Tomenosuke is a simply gorgeous display model.

If you choose a Coyle its vitally important to do your research though because some of Rich's blasters are absolutely top-notch whereas others are pitted, badly made and quite honestly bad..

If you are able to grab a good example Coyle, I would strongly suggest taking it...

Good hunting

Both models also come as kits, which are both a ton of fun to build! Although it will probably be difficult to find a Tomenosuke kit from the latest run, and none are planned for the 2017 run (yet) unfortunately.

I've owned both a Coyle and a Tomenosuke. Here are some of the more notable differences which I pointed out in another thread (http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=211194):

Rich's
- a bit more heft to them than the Tomenosuke blasters (marginal, but noticeable)
- grips lean more to the orange spectrum
- green LEDs on the sight rod light up
- has a removable ammo clip with faux bullet which is kind of cool
- comes with a display stand and plaque

Tomenosuke's
- pristine, sharp lines and angles (laser cut letters on the receiver are distinct and exhibit no softness or loss of detail)
- receiver on pre-built models comes finished (colour varies depending on edition), whereas Rich's are unfinished
- grip colour is more on the yellow side
- the chamber turns when the trigger is pulled
- green LEDs on the sight rod do not light up

I'd add to that list that the front trigger can be pulled on a Tomenosuke while a Coyle's cannot, and that a Coyle can be a bit delicate and is more for display, whereas a Tomenosuke can be handled a bit more.

Ultimately, in deciding which one to get, I think the biggest question to ask yourself is: which one looks more like the movie prop to you? Some think Rich's looks more accurate, while others believe Tomenosuke's is. If you value hand crafted art, like a used universe look, and prefer a more bare metal look, a Coyle may be the blaster for you. If, however, you are more concerned with precision and fine detail, and like a darker metallic finish, I'd recommend a Tomenosuke.

Here are a few photos of my Coyle and Tomenosuke "WorCon" pro from 2013 for reference.

Keep in mind the finish on the Tomenosukes varies from one release to the next. The first release had a dark metal finish and dark grips, the next (mine) had a lighter finish on the metal and grips, and later releases have had anything from very yellow to perfect grips while the metallic finish has become more matte. Here's a timeline of Tomenosuke's releases:

Thankyou Corellian, that was thorough. Alas itll be a Tomenosuke for me, Canadian import laws prohibit metal guns. I talked with Rich and he said it was a big problem / risk so that solves my dilemma.
Which Tomenusuke model is the most recent? (excluding the 2049 model of course)

When is the next run being released and do we know what it will look like??? I have a friend in Japan I would purchase and have it mailed to her.
