Tomb Raider Reborn

Those pics are looking great LadyNerd!

They actually used Half Moon Bay as reference for the coastal forest.
It's about 3 hours away from where I live.
Went horse back riding on the beach there once.

This is giving me ideas for when I finally am finished enough to take pictures, muahaha...

Think you could pull pix like that for the photos in Lara's cabin and of the map for my journal project?

As much as I'd love to, I can't. I've only got game renders for the 4 deterioration stages of Lara's costume, without weapons. I can zoom right in on the fabric fibre and look at any part from any angle, but other than the in-game costume I don't have anything to help you with.

Love your photos LadyNerd! Is that dirt makeup, or real dirt?

The buttons are on the back pockets, and the side pouches. It's weird though. These are taken from the character renders, but there seems to be a mixture of stages 2-4 button placement switching throughout the game, going from screencaps I've seen from different points of the game's timeline.

Stage 1: 'New'
2 buttons on each back pocket, 2 on left leg pouch tab, no visible ones on the right pouch tabs.

Stage 2: 'Smuggler's Den'
2 buttons on each back pocket, 2 on left leg pouch, 2 buttons on both right pouch tabs.
PaWound_zpsa7a15a15.png

Stage 3: 'Midway'
This is where it gets weird.
1 button in the center of each back pocket, 2 on left leg pouch, 1 button on each right pouch tab. Not only is the placement of the buttons on the back pockets different, but the design is completely different (close up further below) and there are no signs that the 2nd button on the right tabs have come off because there should be visible buttonholes. The shape of the back pockets is also different, it's more squared than the pockets in stages 1, 2, and 4.

Stage 4: 'Survivor'
Back to 'normal'.
2 buttons back pockets, 2 buttons each right pouch tab, no tab at all on the left pouch (pulled off?).

Here's a capture from the game's opening video. The button placement and appearance matches what's going on with the Stage 3 buttons.

What to do???!

I've pinpointed the 'Stage 3' weathering stage to immediately following the airplane crash (fair enough given what happens after it begins to go down!). It's just after this that Lara gets the rope too. Another interesting thing - when you see the rope on the ground prior to picking it up, it's definitely an off-white, just like it is when you make the rope lines for travelling on, yet when it's on Lara's belt, it's that odd greenish-beige with the black tracer line.

Wonder if the differences are due to different departments working on the renders.
Strange.
Possibly. It's annoying though, because I was tossing up doing either the stage 3 or 4 version. Am I worrying too much about tiny details and buttons? :p

Oh you are preaching to the choir...I got a nice whiff of how inconsistent this costume is when I was working on my costume. I came to the conclusion that I could spend the rest of the year (and my money) trying to perfect the costume. Only a few are going to appreciate all the hard work, even fewer will notice it (like the buttons). As Kristenhenry70 said, it's really about how it all comes together in the end. That being said, boy do I have stuff to fix on mine...I cannot seem to keep that quiver from sliding down my back worth anything. I think I might have to have some sort of anchor point, possible anchor it to the belt.

Kristenhenry70 - Knowing me, unless I find those boots for dirt cheap (aha! A pun!), I doubt I'll get them. I have very limited funds and truth be told, I kinda want to move on to other costumes (no sense going to Dragoncon with ONLY Lara Croft, when I could add costumes like Jaina Solo and the Huntress to the mix).

Ember - It's fake dirt. I had the fortune of working with a makeup artist who worked on the Walking Dead. So I got the good stuff. Just wait till you see some of the non-Photoshopped closeups. The MUA gave me some seriously nasty cuts and scars!

Hey all, am new here (thanks Paul for the link)

i actually WORKED on the new TR game and am debuting as a Cosplayer as ROTH at MCM in may this year.. some of the things i seen on here are so very cool :)

Nice, especially seeing the guys doing some of the other characters!

Pardon my ignorance, but what's MCM? (the only thing I can think of is the Marine Corps Marathon, and I'm assuming that's wrong).

On that note, are any of you ladies bringing Lara to any cons this year? I'm gearing up to be ready for SDCC (like last year but way better)

OH yes and tis a lovely figure :)

Coolness.

Oh yes my wallet is safely locked away :)

London Comic Con <- thats mcm, its a comic con even in the UK :)

TheLadyNerd - WOW, I LOVE the teaser photos already! :eek And the last one is priceless! ^^
Lucky you getting to work with an actual makeup artist. I already can see myself in front of the mirror, trying to get some dirt on my back - looking like a fail attempt of putting on sunscreen..

Ember - You're the goddess of screencaps! So very helpful!
Well, if the design of one costume changes that much, it's almost impossible to get it to 100%. As for that matter I tend to go with the details I like most. And just as TheLadyNerd said.. only a few will ever notice anyway.

jasonwalker - Welcome on board! Can't wait to see Roth come to life! :thumbsup

It may be a while before I get the final pictures from my shoot back, but here's a couple teasers for you guys. :) (Photographs copyright Adam Greene)

Apparently Lara was a bit hungry after her rescue from the island....

I'm sorry but this pic really makes me giggle. I LOVE your expression in it, plus the dichotomy of your costume and the cleanliness of everything else. :lol

Thanks guys! I'm not sure when I'll be able to have the rest of the shoot up (so much work to do in the meantime). But I'm glad to share those few with you. Heh, I had too much fun with that dinner picture. I do so love silly photos like that during photoshoots.

I'll be at Dragoncon (Atlanta) with my Tomb Raider costume (possibly even MORE dirty and with more weaponry!). :)

Great photos, I agree with others they have a cinematic sequence to them. It's hard to capture an emotion in a photoshoot, or at least that is my experience, because I'm no actress.

If anyone's doing the recurve bow, here are some detail pics of the carving, the side pattern, and the lighter.

Awesome!
Is the lighter tied to the torch?
If so, do you think you could get a snap of the whole thing?

Also, while looking for a way to attach the pick, I noticed this small red/black carabiner on her belt:

Hey lady nerd, the sliding of your quiver is not uncommon. Because the style of quiver you have is essentially a tube with a belt attached, it will tend to move up on your shoulder (thus spilling your arrows over your shoulder), and the lower part of the quiver belt will edge higher towards your armpit. My quiver stays in place on my shoulder because the leather that is resting on the shoulder is trained or moulded to stay in shape. It acts like a saddle to fit my particular shoulder. Maybe if you stiffened the part that rests on your shoulder and get it to maintain its shape

Also, while looking for a way to attach the pick, I noticed this small red/black carabiner on her belt:

The lighter is lashed to the handle of the bow, so it can be used to light the flammable arrows. Something else is used to light the torch, I can't find the cutscene that shows what's used, but the scene is immediately before Lara makes the signal fire for the rescue plane. Here's the cutscene where Lara finds the lighter and unlocks fire arrows: Cutscenes Part 8

And a clearer image of the lighter attached to the handle of the Bow

Great find with the carabiner for the ice axe! None of my game renders show attached weapons (other than the quiver), so that's quite helpful.

Still tossing up between partial weathering or complete weathering of the outfit, and have been on the hunt for suitable pistols. The Beretta 92sb is used all the way up to the helicopter crash (closest match is a Beretta 92f, but finding a replica one that is black with wooden grips has proven to be a bit of an issue! Contemplated getting a silver one that has the wooden grips and painting the silver black). After the helicopter crash Lara's clothes are in their most tattered form, and stay that way for the rest of the game. She also replaces the Beretta with a Remington 1911 pistol after the helicopter crash. So the most accurate pistol with the most weathered form of the costume would be the 1911, or any of the following pistol designs. There are 2 versions of the 1911 really, the non-upgraded one, and the one with the upgraded grips. The first version has brown wooden grips and no finger contours, while the upgraded version has black grips featuring 2 diamonds and a circle, and has finger contours.

Non-upgraded

Upgraded (Roth's shown, but hers ends up just like Roth's only with a silver barrel)

TSD do an airsoft pistol which is almost identical to the upgraded model, the trigger is just a bit different, and there are no finger contours, plus the upper part of the barrel could be painted silver if you want to be uber accurate, but overall I think it's a pretty close match - (Pyramydair.com

Still on the lookout for more accurate pistols though :)
