Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life - ORB -

Was looking through some of my subscribed threads and after bumping the TR Triangle thread I had thought about the Cradle of Life Orb and was wondering if anyone had done a replica. A quick search showed nothing. Has anyone done one?

Also, does anyone have any better caps? I don't have the DVD so can't do my own. Here's the only good ones I have.

Thinking about it... But not enough experience with resin casting...

The orb and coin are on my list of artifacts to do, but the orb interior is something I'm still brainstorming on.

I made one out of an actual calcite sphere of proper size a few years ago, though I need to redo the tune marks

Brenton, you could use different ways to achieve a nice effect for the interior...

Option one: shards/rocks of quartz (the transparent one)
Two: pieces of glass/plexy/acrylic/mishaped clear resin casts
Three: mold and cast a sphere of amber clear resin, smash it with a hammer (or in the ground) glue the pieces together (doesn't matter if some pieces are missing) and use it a s the "core" of a new, slightly larger, sphere mold...

The only limit is your imagination!

I was actually thinking along those lines with the quartz in the center!

Cradle of Life - ORB - Rise from the dead Thread!!!

This is almost a year old thread so Im sorry for dragging it up from the dead.
Has anyone attempted the Orb yet? I have found a toy sphere ball that could fit for making a mold of the Orb but i can't figure out what the inside looks like.
Is there any new pictures, maybe some taken outside the movie with the prop on display or something.

Maybe we are lucky and someone that made it for the movie is a member here

The triangle was on ebay days ago... And I remember that someone drom here make a run of triangles some time ago...

Next month I get my TR Holster and two guns for my new display, and another prop from TR next to it would look beautiful...

Edit: After I saw the lara croft dummie from the collection of houdini a lifesize costume would be nice, too... Any ideas where I can get a wig?!? So much to do, and less time to make everything...

I totally forgot about this.... Here is mine, still in progress. I have to add a darker tint to it and add the markings. These are just quick pics I took this morning and will try to get better ones soon

as it is made from solid Calcite, its quite heavy, and has great looking internal fractures with gives it added depth and detail..

Here are a picture listing all the "dots"

If you look at these picture it seems like there is a crystal inside the Orb if someone could take some better images of this sequence and make it into a animated gif i might be able to make the crystal from scratch.
It shows the orb rotating in almost 360degrees and it make the crystal looks 3d.


This picture looks like the real prop did have a crystal structure inside it.

Im almost ready with my master of the orb, Im going to dremel in all the dots and lines but i can figure out how many lines there should be.

The inner crystal is something that im still is figureing out.
Is it possible to grow salt crystals and then mold them? or will they melt.
