Tom Baker Sonic - Character Options

Character Options just released Tom Baker's Sonic Screwdriver and it's available for purchase now from WhoNA and other fine retail establishments.

I picked one up yesterday while on vacation and it's pretty sweet. The sound is louder than the 3rd Doc Sonic and it's not just a re-paint.

Overall, I like it.

So, what's next for CO? How about River Song's computer?

Nice to hear. I already have the 3rd Doctors, and am on an EXTREMELY tight budget. any purchase really has to count for something, So i'd be very interested to know beforehand if its different enough to warrant a purchase.....

I am waiting on my CO River Songs Sonic.......will have to order the Baker one. Thanks!

I may need to get one so I have one for travel. I love my collection of metal sonics too much to risk them leaving the house very often.

Does it use the classic screwdriver sound?

Okay, so I'm going to come right out and say it: I haven't seen many Baker-era episodes and I don't remember him using the Sonic too much in the episodes I've seen.

However, I will tell you that it uses the same sounds at the Tennant screwdriver, except that it's even louder than the Matt Smith sonic.

Overall, I'm pretty pleased with it!

It's NOT just a repaint, that much is sure. There are many differences between the two.

I'm on vacation right now so I can't compare, but I'll take a picture when I get home on Friday and post it.

Oy...I wish they had just fixed the first run of Matt Smith's Sonic's and not put the old tennant sfx chips in it :( I'd be open to buy one.

As far as TB's Sonic, if I recall it was a bit lower pitch than the current ones. (By ones I mean Eccleston/Tennant versions also!)

Now that I'm home and can compare the two, they look very similar, so in a lot of cases it IS just a repaint.

Any Chance that anyone can post a comparison pic of the CO next to a metal replica so I can see a size difference... I've searched all over the net for dimensions for the Classic Prop, and all the ones I've found seem to make the CO toy seem only millimeters out... But I just cant shake the feeling it seems a little small.... I'd love to see one sitting by the side of a high end replica....

Ask and ye shall receive......

Those are the Russ Versions with the CO Toys

And yes that is a Custom Davidson Sonic made from the new Baker Sonic. I updated my old one (Gave that one to my son....)

Whew, for a moment I was worried. For those of you that don't know, most times when a picture of more than 4 Sonics in a group together get posted in a thread, Wazoo here thinks I have broken into his house and stole some of his collection. Last time he made it across two state lines before he realized that he forgot to check under his bed. One day I am gonna get shin-wacked with that 1st Doctor Cane he is threatening to have made....

But on a more serious note, I have been real impressed with these toys. They are a great substitute for a metal replicas, as the sizes aren't that far off. I wish they would go back and redo the 9/10th Sonic .

The CO toys aren't just "that far off", from what I understand, they are the most accurate classic sonic, dimension and shape wise, ever produced.

While I agree that they are nice toys and the best Sonics CO has produced, I have a hard time buying the most accurate classic sonic ever. I based that on the whole debacle of the CO 9th Sonic being the base or used in the 2nd-4th Seasons of NuWho. That was debunked and you still see that as a selling point on various websites. It would be nice if they were, but I am not betting the farm on it.

I am glad you have that much faith, I assume you have "evidence" that would "prove" that the CO toys are the most accurate Classic Sonics.

Not trying to start anything. I just know that many of us have wanted a "accurate" sonic.

You can PM me if you want.

Again not trying to start anything.

They're not perfect. (They're not bad either.) The designer himself has discussed the sacrifices made to the dimensions for the sake of toy, both by him, and after his plans were submitted. I'm not knocking the toy; it's pretty neat. Just saying, it's not the last word in accuracy. Plus, you know, not metal.

Yes, the dimension changes caused by the materials the toy is made from has caused some minor changes in wall thicknesses and a misinterpretation of some minor details during the manufacturing have crept in but overall dimensions and shape are more accurate than anything produced previously.

All in all they make for a handy carry along prop when you are afraid of risking your expensive and hard to replace prop replica. I guess that means I should buy them. :)
