Edit:
So I didn't really get any help from anyone on the Trekkie forums and it seems like no one here really worked with the patterns or made this skant so I just sort of struggled through and actually found out that it wasn't quite as difficult as I thought it was going to be. I'm basically finished but I need to put the trim around the neck and then later (after the bike ride) I will hem the sleeves and bottom of the skirt. For now at least he has something to wear lol! And yes I know the red is incorrect but unfortunately there wasn't much of an option for colors in sport jersey that was breathable and wicked away moisture. That and since this is a "red dress" day I thought it would fit better to have a true red that most are familiar with and not wine or burgundy.

***************************************************
Ok so I've got about 2 days when my fabric finally arrives to make 2 Uhura dresses and 1 TNG Male/Unisex Skant. This is for my fiance and his friends who are participating in a ride called the AIDSLifecycle. It's where they cycle from San Francisco to Santa Monica in 7 days. Well one of those days is "Red Dress" day where every bicycler wears a red dress.

So I bought these patterns from Roddenberry.com and I have yet to check out the Uhura pattern but the Unisex Skant pattern is...........confusing?? Overall I get the pattern but the instructions are literally non existent and there are pattern pieces that just have no instructions whatsoever...not even cut 1 or 2 of these.

Has anyone used this pattern?? Does anyone know the basic sizing of the patterns? It just says size 6,8,10 and 12 but no mention of generic measurements for chest or waist. Normally I would mock this stuff up or futz around with it but I really just don't have the time. And I tried looking around on here for info on it and maybe I'm just not seeing it or maybe the info is burried in a thread that relates to a different topic but I also just really don't have time to take 2 days and read every post on every thread with the mention of TNG or even Skant in it.

If anyone could help....ugh.....that would be amazing!

Re: TNG Male Skant- PLEASE HELP!!

Maybe there's a Trek costume forum somewhere you could find help from? Wish I had a better answer for you...

Re: TNG Male Skant- PLEASE HELP!!

i looked on the first link but didn't find anything but I hadn't seen that second link and I found someone who made the skant and it looks awesome! So hopefully they'll respond to my cry for help lol! Since this is for a bike ride and going to be made from bicycle jersey and since I have absolutely no time to make it I'm probably going to do a lot of mods to it. (like no zipper since the fabric is stretchy) but hopefully one day in the future I'll make the "real" version because it's just one of those things I always wanted to make lol!

Thanks for that link!

Re: TNG Male Skant- PLEASE HELP!!

No help here but just want to give a big :thumbsup to your Fiance and his friends.

I cycle every day and my friends and I would love to do a ride like that but can never find the time.

Thanks! Ya it's definitely been eating up his weekends for the past couple of months having to train. What's cool is his work is actually sponsoring them to ride in it so they don't have to take vacation time and his work donated the full fundraising amount which was amazing because it's $3000 that you have to raise to participate. I can't wait to finish the dresses and then have them take pics to see what they look like. So much fun!

I've done a personal message to that guy on the above link so hopefully he messages me. Unfortunately those forums aren't as well organized as these ones nor are they as huge soooooo.....I'm not holding my breath or anything lol. But we'll see! Either way I'll figure out the skant and then post pics hehehe!

Re: TNG Male Skant- some WIP pictures!

**updated with pics**

So I've pretty much got the pattern all figured out now so if anyone else ever tries to tackle the skant lol feel free to ask me any questions you may have about how I put mine together. I followed the instructions a bit but they really were not only useless but would have you put it together in a really weird order that just didn't work.

Wow they both look great!!!

:lol I ride 2 hours a day Mon-Fri and my girlfriend sympathises with you! :lol

At least I do mine early in the mornings so she can't complain that much! :D

Extremely cool what his work did, sound like a great place to work!

So here's a pic of my fiance wearing the skant hehhe. This was after his ride was finished for the day so he just biked 40 miles and that was a short day.

:lol The tan lines are hilarious. Very well done, though.

Lol I know. I meant to say that he was wearing the skant rocking the tan lines hahaha. You should have seen them the next day though. He literally resembled Neapolitan ice cream because he was white on his upper thigh, and then pink where the skirt/shorts hit and then brown from his normal biker tan. Apparently a lot of riders got some crazy tan lines lol.

So I've been a lurker on these forums for a while now and I guess this is as good a time as any to come out the shadows :ninja

I'm the fiance with the dodgy tan-lines! :$ It was a predominantly gay ride, and wanted to represent by wearing something a bit more unisex. I got asked a ton of times why I didn't give myself Captain insignia, to which I had a mental 'LMAO' at the thought of Patrick Stewart wearing one of these things.

Thanks babe for doing such an awesome job on my Skant - I wore it with pride! I'll post the group picture later with the Uhura dresses too.

That's true love folks. Take note everyone.

So True!

Love the costumes... it's a great idea for a "red dress" type event. Someone recently asked me to do the "red dress run" and I would totally want to do it in an outfit like that!
