TNG Hypospray

Hello everyone,

Sorry if this has been done before.

I'm trying to scratch build a hypo spray (for eventual resin casting) but I'm not happy with what I've got so far after a couple of attempts.

Does anyone know, or have the measurements?

Also what is best used for the circular "neck" and the nozzle?

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
JMar

I've been back at it and I'm happy with the size of the body now.

I went 8.2 mm total length, and 7.2 mm for the "handle" using 1.5 mm thick styrene.

The previous attempts are visible in the background. I think I've got the neck the figured out, I'm still stymied (spelling...:unsure) by the nozzle.

I would make the nozzle from discs of styrene and shape them.
1 3mm disc for the base, then a 2mm disc for the intermediary disc, with another 2mm disc on top same diameter as the base, then another intermediary with a flattened conical disc for the top of the hypo.

Working from the base to the top of the nozzle
3mm Base disc diameter 25mm
2mm next disc diameter 22/23mm
2mm next disc diameter 25mm
2mm next disc diameter 22/23mm
2mm next disc diameter 25mm
2mm next disc diameter 22mm
2mm next disc diameter 19mm
2mm next disc diameter 15mm
1mm next disc diameter 12mm
1mm next disc diameter 10mm

Thats roughly how I would do it, I'm not saying that is 100% perfect, but hopefully you get the idea.

On the left is I think a Comm510 and on the right is an as yet un-finished DStines hypo. The nozzles are different the comm510 is the Voyager version, the one on DStines is the TNG version.

renaissance man;

That is totally awesome, thank you SO much.

Now that you say it it seems so simple! (possibly time consuming :))

Will keep posting as progress is made.

Hi guys,

in the official ST-TNG magazine vol. 7, page 35 from 1989 I found the attached graphic from Rick Sternbach of a hypospray including the measures.

This might be helpful for your projects.

So long and keep on trekking

Here is one I made from DS9

And here is my Dstines one that I built up

You all totally rock!

Thanks for all the additional info!

Will post more pics of mine as the process goes forward.

Here are photos of my hypos for reference. The top one is all resin and detailed like the DS9 hypos. That style was always my favorite. The two in the bottom picture are all aluminum (nozzle and body).

Just an update on my progress so far. At this point it's a Hypospray representation as it's not screen accurate.

I used a lid from a glue stick as the neck and I plan on getting an X-ACTO CIRCLE CUTTER on the weekend to manufacture the pieces for the nozzle.

Thanks again to all who replied to the initial post, the notes and suggestions have been EXTREMELY helpful.

Weekend Update.

Just some pics on the progress made on the Nozzle. Thanks again to Renaissance Man for the suggested approach.

JMAR plz take plenty of progress photos, im going to use your guide to make one of these, its looking like its going to turn out sweet just wondering what are you going to use for the bottle and the brass looking end that contacts the skin?

For the nozzle thats where the 2nd set of pics come in (if not mistaken).

Here's some more progress photos.

The last set I posted were the cut outs I made using an X-Acto circle cutter (11.99 @ Michael's). I'm posting the result. I actually did 2 sets. The first time the recessed rings on the nozzle were 2 mm thick. I wasn't happy with the spacing and produced them at 1mm each.

Once I gt to the "medicine bottle" I'll be using acrylic tube and I'll have to make circular cutouts to seal the top and bottom.

Of course I couldn't have done this without the help of other forum members who advised me when I was stuck (I apologize as I don't recall all the user names but they're suggestions that helped me are scattered throughout this post)

I'm actually on hold right now as I need a "neck" between the body and nozzle head. I thought I had it solved with a glue stick cap but am not happy with the look.

I'd like to find some 1" styrene tube, but haven't had any luck yet.

Worst case I'll get some wooden dowel, fill the grain, cut it and add the recessed spacers and be good to go.

Updates as they become available, thanks for all the interest

Hi Jmar,

Here is a photo of a few org. screen used tips.

As you can see there not always the same. All of the ones in this photo where requested by the Propmaster as we were making more hypos. He wanted different shapes for different uses and then could not get his crew to stick to it so they went back to one style. So now I have 8 screen used nozzles.

Hope this helps you,

HMS Mike
