TMNT Krang + Android Body *Final Pics pg. 9"

Re: TMNT Krang + Android Body Budget Build

Love how you're just going to throw together a vac table in a weekend, like it's no big deal :) Any pics to tide us over?

Eh, it'll be a small simple vac table. A 2'x2' with a hinge top for dropping the foam sheet. Really not too big of a deal.

I'll post another pic update tonight when I finish up the back of the torso.

Re: TMNT Krang + Android Body Budget Build

Update to the armor - I created a new back panel between the suspenders and added on velcro along the back and along the bottom ring (for attachment of the briefs). I know the chamber wasn't cut right down the middle on the back - oh well, this is just a costume and hey - it's the back.
Also added some eyelids on the lower faschia of Krang's chamber. This should wrap up all of the bodywork on the torso, so next step for that is paint.

While etching the back vent detail with the soldering iron, I slipped and burned up the tip of my left middle finger. Not sure I'll be sewing up the shorts today because of it, but I'd like to.

Also wanted to wire in the LED strip lights, but I seem to have misplaced them. That's not much of a worry, only a few minutes to wire them to a battery box and glue them in when I find them.

I've also recently molded and cast some resin discs for the sides of my knees and I'll use the same one as an antenna attachment point on the top of the helmet. More pics of those later though. When I finish up modifying the shorts, I'll take pics of the morph suit, briefs, and armor altogether.

Thanks for looking. Next update will be whenever I finish the briefs.

This week I finished up fabric work and I'm about 3/4 done painting the torso. I should have the whole thing done this week.

Re: TMNT Krang + Android Body Budget Build

Vacuuform table works good, but since I'm new to it I need some practice.

First attempt it was just too cold at night in the garage and the foam was cooling quickly.
Tonight I had a better result - I had an almost perfect cast of the rear of the helmet, then I got too happy with the heat gun and blew a hole in the side. Tried my second sheet on the front of the head, and it ripped, so I didn't get it hot enough.
I decided to try some of the thicker foam that I used to make the torso. Well I guess I didn't compensate for the thickness on my table hinge, because I ended up breaking the top frame.

Oh well, more aattempts tomorrow. I'll pick up some corner braces and adjust the height of the hinge. I've expected a learning curve since this is my first time vacuuforming. It's fun so far though.

Re: TMNT Krang + Android Body Budget Build

Well the thick foam was just too thick, so I went back to the thin foamies roll.

Here is the helmet mocked up with a nose and goggles to get an idea of how it will look. This is also the last pic of the helmet before being bisected for vacuuforming.

Here are the two pulls attached together. Difficult to work with because they are so thin after forming. Eyes marked for cutting, and nose attached. The nose is open on the bottom for airflow:

Tomorrow I plan to pick up a sheet of 6mm foam to form the goggles and use them to kind of get rid of some of the misshapen parts around the temples.

I think it looks a little too much like Randy Quaid now. I wanted larger eye holes to be able to see better, but they don't look that good. I'll see how I feel about them when I put the chrome tinted plastic behind them.

Re: TMNT Krang + Android Body *Helmet update Pg 6*

Randy Krang! I love this more and more every time I see it.

Re: TMNT Krang + Android Body *Helmet update Pg 6*

I'll be wrapping up all of the flesh painting tonight.
After that, I'll just be waiting for my LED strips to come in the mail (I had some on hand, but lost them over the past few months). Once the LEDs are in, I'm sealing Krang in the chamber and I'm pretty much done with this.

Now I have to make a Shredder costume by next Friday. Thinking I can knock out the construction (armor + tunic) in 1 day and painting in 1 day.
