TMNT Cosplay Build - 90s version

Do you have any templates that you used to make the shell? I've been wracking my brain and have gone through a lot of paper trying to get the shape right. Can we see the underside of the shell?

Looking great!

Thanks, yeah the shell gave me a really hard time..

I made one out of carboard using a tutorial I found, that sort of explains it kind of like making an air plane wing. I sort of went way out of the way and used the cardboard shell, as a base to cut the foam for the foam shell, so i can show you the inside of it, but its completely hollow.

A few more photos... The problem I see mostly is that depending on what scene/photo you look at his eyes and face are doing something different, so it's really difficult to tell what his face shape/eye shape really is.. I picked the expression I thought captured him the best that would work well as a mask..

My interpretation!

As for yours... I thought someone had slipped acid into my coffee... but I see what you did there. :)

Great work so far. Following this one! Can't wait to see the end result. Big fan of the 90's Turtles movies, the new stuff does nothing for me at all.

Looking really cool! How about a good strong double sided velcro to attach the shell to your bodysuit, you can buy a roll for fairly cheap off amazon or diy store.

Less than 100 days til con, and I'm not even half way finished.. but i'm progressing at least.

Finally able to wear the shell (temporarily). I know that the ones I've seen have backpack straps keeping them on, but I just couldn't figure out how to make that work and be able to cover them up with the torso.

Here's a few pics. I want to make the shell a little more raised, it's totally hollow inside so it doesn't stick out as much as I think it should.. any suggestions?

I look like a creeper...

The front shell will be velcroed to the side flaps so they lay flat. I might trim it down a bit, it might be a tad bit too wide right now.. we'll see.. I also have to remember that a muscle suit will be underneath this, but it shouldn't factor in too awfully much. I don't want my suit to be as bulky as I've seen others. I don't think the turtles were that bulky in person in the movies, they just look bigger on camera than they actually were.

I made a form out of my hands using duct tape, and some disposable gloves and expanding foam to sculpt my hands with. In hindsight I should have done my entire forearm, but i'm debating having the forearm be part of the torso instead of it being part of the hands, so that I can take the hands off to eat easier at cons. I did the same thing for my legs. I plan to sculpt and mold my legs and hands, and then use the "foam over spandex" method for the torso and the shorts. This will keep my costs down and mobility high.

Looking great! That shell has a nice curve to it!

I was going to do the duct tape over glove method, but found it to be very restrictive. I think I made it too tight!

Keep up the great work!

Thanks! I'm going to sculpt with clay over the top of the duct tape, and then cast in latex. They should be a good bit bigger than my hands and fit nicely when done.

Honestly I think the Shell form looks great but maybe if you want it raised more.... Internal wiring. Like a heavy gage wire that will retain the form of the shell you want while not adding too much weight.
