Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland Costumes

Hmmm...I got my coat. Well...The post office has my coat. They stuck the notice in my box, but since that poser Columbus has to celebrate a day of dicsovery, which he never believed he made...they're closed.

Does anyone have any templates/how-to's to make the gloves?

I just trace my hand and leave about half an inch on either side of each finger for sewing. :) always better to have more room than not enough. you can always take them in later if you need to.

i didn't even hem the tops of the fingers, just folded them over backward since the hatters look that way.

How do you do the thumb part then? I'm not for sure how the finger hole part should be sewn. :lol

Hey, also! Where did you get Travis's's's's contacts at? :lol And your avatar is freaking awesome BTW! :D

Thanks! I think it just oozes strumpet-tude! haha

I know some gloves the thumbs are sewn on separately, but with the hand tracing, it works fine. You just... follow the edges to sew it together!

Got Travis' contacts at here. They're the 'terror eyes' green ones. I gotta say, blahblah it's not smart to order contacts online blahblah they're the only eyes you have blah blah only order from your doctor 'cause part of me does believe that, but I'm too costumey at heart and ignore it and from his experience, even not regularly wearing contacts ( meaning... at all, ever ) they were comfortable enough and looked fantastic. No issues at all.

I just ordered some bright blue UV ones for my succubus and some black ones for rufio ( which might not even be happening now... ) and i've tried them both on and love them. One is always a little bit off...'cause they're only in one size and one of my eyes is slightly off-round, but other than that, they're comfy and bold and I love love LOVE them and will definitely order more in the future. No bad reviews here!

This is what I used, but I extended the top length to four inches so I could fold the tops over, trimming later to the desired length :)

I frayed the edges up a bit though instead of hemming the gloves, and this is what mine look like :)

Aelynn, your picture has got that strumpet attitude. :p You look realy nice it, you should post some pictures of the costumes you've done!

Keli, awesome!!!!!! :D :D :D That's exactly what I needed, thank you!!!!! :D

To do List :
Make gloves.
Add sleeve lace.
Add snap to close shirt up, lol.
Fix the pant leg bottoms and add the bell material.
Weather coat!
Do something about the coat trim...

I got the coat this morning, which worked out perfect, because we didn't have school today. :D But....About ze coat trim. It would appear to my untrained eye to not be very good. Soooo....What do you guys think I should use to replace it/put over it/do something. It look like a freaking Sith Lord or something. :p ;) The coat is realy nice otherwise, everything is made right, measurements are perfect, liner is great and even matches what you see in all the screencaps...Just the trim is horrid. :(

Made before the movie was released.
I still have to paint the ribbon of the hat, make the right peacock pin... still turned out pretty good. The reference was the first medicon mad hatter.

Looks fantastic!!! Are those bright red blobs part of the trim/yarn used? Or separate stitches around it? If they're separate, I'd just snip them off. If it's part of it, a last minute fix, you could just colour it with some black marker. Since the yarn ( if that's what it is ) is acrylic, the marker won't stick totally anyways, so the red will still shine through and probably match the rest of it. Or just pull/cut it all off and glue some dark red yarn over the same lines. :)

I'm looking forward to seeing the whole thing!!!

Aelynn, thanks! Yeah, the blobs things are part of the yarn crap, it's sandwiched inbetween each layer of the coat. I think. :lol I'll take some pics, because I'm not for sure myself. It's deffintly NOT what I ordered. :(

I think...maybe....if I can't figure it out before Halloween...I might leave the red/black crap...And use this coat for my custom pirate as well. :lol

I say buy some red/burgundy chenille yarn and just snip off what's on there and glue the new stuff over top. You don't have to pull apart the coat to do it, just pinch the seams so you can get the wierdo yarn between the scissors!

Either way, I think it looks great anyways. It's a minor blurb in an overall great look!

Oops, sorry Trey, I didn't see your question mate! Yes, Chad is right, it is a cosplaysky coat (I hate their company name. :lol ), and the tie I got second hand for $30, but it is one of Fatal's.

Overall, this costume has cost me around $250. Which I don't think is to bad.

Aelynn, I might have to do that, I'm gonna have to add that to my "need to buy list" before Halloween now. :D

Still hacking away at my first build- Nowhere near as great as you guys, but its definitely an inspired creation.

I've created cardboard patterns for the Spaulders, Vambraces, wrist/hand plates and greaves. Tomorrow is an exciting day, I'm heading out to Dazian to pick up some sheets of Wonderflex, and I hope to begin shaping these pieces tomorrow.

Can any of you guys give any advice on the working of Wonderflex? Its a new material for me, I will be getting some extra and will be starting on the smaller pieces. I think I want to line the inside of the pieces with craft foam or fleece to make it more comfy-- I heard that it can be a bit scratchy. Is this a good idea?

I'm having a bit of issue with the curiass (if thats even the right term-- its a separate chest piece and back piece) pattern. I'm hoping that when the wonderflex is warm, I can drape it more like a fabric, than a stiff cardboard. I plan on incorporating the darts I need into the material so that it'll sit properly without wrinkling. (From my research, I should be able to adhere it to itself, so... it should be ok... might require more finishing to make it nice before I can paint it.)

My shield is still in the planning phase, as is the Vorpal sword. I think it'll end up being a combo of Pex tubing, LED lights and mirror sheeting, with applique. It won't be great, but it'll do for now... again, something to rework later.

I'm not 100% happy with what I'm using for the under-suit-- but it's one of those it'll do, after halloween, it's another story, and I can go for more accurate. Its essentially leggings and a stretchy top. Gloves are fairly standard costume fair, but since they will be mostly covered in armor, I'm refusing to stress.

I plan on working on the Jabberwock head soon as well. I want to make it more functional than just a prop= I want to have it have a hidden zipper, to lead to the hollow inside, so I can use it as a Jabber-purse.

Here's hoping :)
