Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland Costumes

Another shoe question from me :)
I've just purchased white Victorian boots on eBay for my rabbit hole dress.
They are not leather-
in the past I have spray painted non-leather shoes to make them the right color for costumes, but does anyone have any other ideas for painting the toes black?
If they were leather I'd strip the white and re-paint with Tandy leather dye, but as they are not, I'm curious what others have done to change shoe colors?

I just did that on mine - I used Krylon for plastic. It's stayed tacky on the sides of soles that I didn't tape off (because they were already black) and in one spot I had some paint come off but I think it may be from coming in contact with the other boot before it was totally dry. I would, however, if I was to do it again, give the toe a sand with a very fine grit sandpaper to get rid of any finish that is on the vinyl first.

So the hat is finally finished because I found the right pattern for the blue white and red patch so I thought I would share. Hat is complete! :)

Thats cool. I feel you on the paycheck thing too. Just send me the shipping cost and I'll send you the pin and the patch. Topsole@sbcglobal.net All good man. Just pass it along you know?

On another note... where do I get a good an proper bowtie? I don't know if ebay is the way to go or if anyone here makes them... but a good one though...

thanks dude

as for ties i know Fatals is nice, though its white on the back so its not double sided
his are like 100 bucks
the pattern is almost spot on though

and Sithcamaro makes a pretty one only you have to tie them and the real thing wasn't tied evey time
not to mention they're bloody expensive (like $149 pluss shipping)

Acmes is a great one but he wont be selling till closer to halloween
so no say on the cost just yet, ive seen it in person though and its really nice

there are a few on Ebay that are ok, not perfect but inexpensive

i make Ties too, they're hand painted and ive been working with the pattern to get it just right
Panda has been working on a pattern so we can get fabric printed but were still kind of a ways away for that
the fun thing though is they're always different, and i paint front and back
i sell mine for like $120 with like 8 bucks for shipping.

so thats all the ties i know of really
if your interested in buying one from me just shoot me a PM

Has anyone had the fortune of seeing the official Disney Mad Hatter wig in person? It looks alright, in the photo at least. Just curious. I was thinking of ordering it myself, but I'm still on the fence.

yeah there is an online store were you can find the exact ones
(ill have to find it again)
BUT! you can get real cheap versions of the buttons at JoAnns
they look the same just made of plastic is all

i have been collecting them just in case we need to make the dress

Do you still have the button card for the JoAnn's buttons you found?
I want to go pick some up, and am hoping you'll remember who makes them?
Can you post a photo of them here?

has anyone found that daisy ribbon? it's such a common shape for daisies in crafts but i just can't find it ON a ribbon...i did get the perfect holepunch though ... now i need some kind of stiff but thin vinyl or laminate or something that i can still use the holepunch on but won't get ruined on the dress. @_@

I found a close version at Joannes. The flower is red though. For us it'll work and is the same size and shape. My GF can live with the red sepecially seeing the dress is red.
For the hearts on the striped organza is everyone cutting them by hand? I'm purchasing a heartshaped cutter used for scrapbooking and hope it works. If it does that'll save alot of time cutting out shapes.

Also, found a gem button that looks VERY close to the peacock jewel. Though not on the website Mendels in SF carries them. Sorry, they're out at the moment I bought the last one but they do have 2 other sizes. We're making an extra peacock hatpin to sell if they come out as good as I think they will. So far the test looks good. :thumbsup

3/8" GROSGRAIN RIBBON BLACK DAISIES 3 YARDS DAISY on eBay!

It's not perfect, but the colors are good.
I've seen a few sellers selling it on ebay, etsy, and online.

Sorry :) Didn't answer all the questions!

I used the ribbon I posted, cut out the daisies, then stitched those cut out daisies onto plain black satin ribbon.
It was tedious, took forever, and I don't think it makes that much of a difference.

I cut hearts out of satin ribbon, and then used adhesvie paper, and ironed the hearts on, then did small stitches just for extra security.
I probably could have ironed on the daisies too-and saved time.

If I were to remake the dress I would just use this ribbon as is, and I would make smaller hearts, and use more of them.
:)

Hmmm....if im using my daisy hole puncher, what's a good material to use it on? It won't cut through ribbon or fabric so i need some kind of paper that won't rip or tear easily...like a laminate...or thin plastic sheets or something...any ideas anyone?
