Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland Costumes

I still have some loose threads that have shed out, but if I didn't glue it down, everything would tangle into and indiscernable mess. Which would be not only be difficult to wear, but also innacurate.

Also, the movie Hatter isn't Carroll's Hatter.

I'm pretty happy with how mine turned out:

DANG!! I am impressed, especially knowing that hat is mache!! Nicely done!! I found an old flannel shirt at the thrift store tonight with almost an identical plaid pattern I am going to use to make my fingerless gloves!

EDIT: Scratch that! I found that same plaid wool today in a remnant bin at Jo Ann's!

The wig is nice, looks like it is toned down a bit. Not just a crazy orange clown wig. Did you color it yourself?

Thanks guys.

The wig was just a standard orange clown wig that I styled myself and misted with primer to tone down.

So in my continued research for "ready made" clothing articles I have come to the conclusion that many of the Mad Hatters costume pieces are really based off of Western wear. Gentlemen's Emporium has very similar pants (non high water style), I have found a burgundy/brown style Western frock coat from Wahmaker that would suffice for the coat, and numerous styles of double-breasted vests (but not the same pattern).

I am in the process of trying to find a "close enough" checkered double-breasted vest but have been hitting a dead end. Anyone find an alternative?

My hat is still in a frame format using very thin hat wire purchased from Michaels. I have leftover goatskin leather that I am going to use to cover the frame. Next I am going to actually draw the pattern onto the leather as best as I can determine from numerous photos and start poking the pattern out!!!:eek:eek:eek:eek:eek I will know what Sith Camaro will have felt like in about two weeks!!!

Still looking for the shoes. I find many "close enoughs" but none of them are lace up!

Vest? Just add some fabric paint to add the pattern?

You only see about the lower 1/3 to 1/4 of the vest under the coat so you wouldn't have to mod too much.........anyone?

I think I'm going to be doing more of "inspired" look...I still want to finish my Joker suit, but I'd like to have the Hatter for Halloween/the movie. I'm on the lookout for a blazer/pants that fits at the goodwill to start moding, etc. I don't know what I'm gonna do for the hat yet. :confused

EDIT - Come to think of it, I don't have a single element of this costume in general. :confused :(

G by Guess at guess.com is having a promo sale on the aforementioned double-breasted vest. $16.50 plus tax and shipping comes out to about $25.00! I have only seen it as low as $33.00 on Amazon.com not including tax and shipping. No guess.com coupons worked! :confused

Opinions on any of my finds? Good? Bad? Your way off course mate?

Ooo, I might buy it just because I like it in general! :lol

As for the coat, I think for that price it should be a little bit better, or closer to the one we're after anyway, that's why I'm gonna go real cheap like and start looking for one at Goodwill. I mean, for $4 you can't go wrong with a Goodwill blazer. :p

I'm realy digging those pants though! I'm hoping my old Joker pants can be resized or something because I've lost some weight....But those pants do look realy nice.

I was just gonna try to find a dress shirt for the shirt as well.

I'm realy lacking good clear images of how the trim is on the coat, and the vest. I've got one picture of the vest that shows the box pattern stiching, do you have any (or know of any others) images I could take a look at?

I'VE FINALLY FOUND THEM!!!

My Mad Hatter "close enough" boots. Just ordered them!! Only available in UK so they weren't cheap!!:eek:eek:eek:eek:eek

Just need to use a little alcohol to lighten them up and get to scratching them up with words and stuff!

This is just getting better and better! Just purchased my shirt. It will need to be dyed pinkish but it has the high collar and it is from the Western/Victorian age.

Wahmaker High Collar shirt in white or ivory!

UGH! I couldn't justify paying over $200.00 for a pair of boots that would be weathered and engraved (does CABoots ring a bell???)..........SO

I cancelled my order quickly, got my money back and waited longer. I found these used beauties from FleaBay! Kenneth Cole boots! Perfect and well worth the price for further destruction!!!!

I feel much better now!

The toe area will have the metal plate added and that should achieve the "square toe cut" look.

So is it just me or do these appear to be two different vests?

The promo shot shows a the diamond design but the white spots inside appear to be a checker board black and white pattern. When you see other promo images of the same pose they appear very pixelated so I am wondering if this is just a flaw in the photo or does it really have the pattern?

However when you look at this HI RES image form Comic Con 2009 you see that the white checkerboard pattern is missing and the material just appears to be very weathered?

Opinions? :confused
