I've been wanting a Spartan helmet since I saw 300 in theaters, but held off buying one till I saw a version that really caught me, this is it! Got it from Tim Allen, GREAT guy to deal with! And I am friggin thrilled with the helmet! Flexable fiberglass casting, and a fantastic pull, really finished up nicely, and was fun as hell to work on! Took a lot of cutting and trimming work, as you'll see, but it wasn't all that bad once I found a good method that worked, small hack saw blade all by hand. The main seller for me on this helmet, other then the incredable dead accurate sculpt was the size. This fits and looks EXACTLY like the movie helmets did, fairly snug and close to the head. This was damn fun to do the finishing on too, between the battle damage and blood splatter, awesome stuff!
Here it is outta the box

and then with a few hours work, got it all trimmed up, sanded, and battle damage added

After that, I primed it, then added the base coat, a really nice Tremclad hammered bronze spray paint

Seriously mate, thats an awesome job, one of the best paint jobs I've seen on a Spartan helmet and I think you've caught the feel of the film well.

Would you ever consider painting up another? :)

Tim Allen did that? He sure learned a lot from his days the Tool Time set on Home Improvement!

HAHA, That's why I clicked on the post... I was curious to see if Al helped him...:)

Great job on the weathering, and, it looks like it was made to fit your head.

Wow, thanks so much guys! To hear those kind of compliments from this site is really very humbeling.

Tim really did an incredable job on the sculpt of this, he knocked it outta the park, the Binford logo was kinda tough to sand down, but a little bondo helped that ;)

The weathering I did all by hand and eye, the battle damage I was going to draw out first, then go at it, but that was a waste of time so I just grabbed my dremel and went to town! Used a fiberglass cut off wheel, and lightly dug in the slash, then went over it side to side to widen it in the middle. The rest of the weathering was all done with acrylic paints in washes. Just thining them down with water, sponging it on, then using a rag to wipe most of it off.

The paint I found at Canadain Tire, it's Tremclad, part of their metalics line, called Hammered Bronze. I would guess you could find it in Home Depot, or most of the other big box stores too.

Guyver, I'd love to paint up another, I had a lotta fun on this project and wouldn't hesitate to do it again! If you wanted a helmet done, just shoot me a PM!

Wow thats came out really, nice. I love the black smuggyness did with it. Really gives the helmet alot of depth.
