TIK TOK: The army of OZ

I recently watched "Return to Oz" after about 10 years. I had forgotten how much everything in this film, while scattered and disjointed stories from several OZ books, truely looks and feels like OZ does in the those books.

My favorite thing, though, in all that make up and puppetry, was TIK TOK.

I once saw him in MGM Disney's prop house(hugged 'im), but have never seen him again.

I want badly to have a model of him, or even a costume (pss, yea right).

Any info on where he may be, or if anyone has photos, genral info, etc, I'd owe you one.

Interesting note, he was puppeted by Tim Rose, and some others. Tim Rose is "Overacting" Ackbar. Neat huh?

He is now owned by George Lucas and he has him hidden away with the rest of his pricless props in his Ranch, like the rest of his props these should be on display for everyone to see.. I dont have any photos sorry hopefully someone has tho

Yeah, I've always loved this character. How cool would it be to have a model...heck even a full sized version of this character. Screen grabs are plentiful, but as hotshot mentioned pics of the actual costume would be great. Hard to believe someone was actually IN the thing...guy wasnt even a little person...talk about a back ache.

I just re-watched the movie recently as well. I'm making an OZ key. Tic Toc is a great piece.

OOOOooohhhhhh ;)
That I want to see...

I have several of the original vintage books and recently read them.
They inspired me to re watch return as well...and then of course...classic musical The Wizard of OZ.
And that one my friends is my all time favorite movie.

Re-re-re-re-reading the first 14 Oz books just now... got about 2 to go.
I remember when I first found out how many there were, a few years ago. I was all "WHUH?.?."

Tik Tok rocks.
I remember seeing a "Making Of" on TV when I was little, showing how the midget inside had to walk as if touching his toes, and saw where he was going on a little video monitor...

Hey Rev, Michael Sundin wasn't a midget. He was a gymnast and actor who went on to present Blue Peter for some time.

It's true though, he had to hobble along backwards and watch a monitor between his legs - and very uncomfortable it looked too. Good coverage in Cinefex as I recall.

He was, as of 2005, on display in the Skywalker Sound lobby.
It was damn cool to see him up close as I really dig that film.
No pics though, Ranch rules and all ;)

I recorded a CD an Skywalker Ranch last year. Didn't see any props though. Just lots of studios and movie theaters.

This is funny, because I was just thinking about building a Tik Tok.

Would probably have to reduce the scale a bit due to display space.

"The most sought after movie prop from Return to Oz would have to be Tik-Tok himself. Thought to be lost over the years, but good news prevails. He is still around and very well taken care of. He lies in a dark corner of a Private collection, amongst the green leaves and forest setting, is the Royal Army of Oz himself. He was a gift to George Lucas and remains in his private collection at Skywalker Ranch."

If anyone comes across his specs, let me know as I am building a file for a future build.

Thanks!

Edit:

just read that Tik Tok is "as tall as Dorothy".

That would put him at about 48"-52" tall.

I just re-watched this with the kids recently and didn't remember all the cool characters and creatures. Prime source for some great projects!

Wizard of Oz is classic Americana and the creatures and special FX that went into this film got overlooked due to disappointing box office sales.

I remember seeing this when it it first came out, at 11 y/o and thinking TikTok was pretty cool.

Learning now that he was one of the first robotic humanoids in literature would make the build that more special.

Plus the patina of the copper and all the rivets would be fun.

Finding a toy figure for scaling will be tough and spendy.

May have to wing it on measurements.

That would make a great display piece. I loved that movie as a kid. Although the Wheelers always creeped me out. :)
