TIE Bomber - I would kill for a SS kit or replica!

I just thought that EFX or someone out there could use an idea for a new SS replica or kit. For a SS replica it wouldn't need all of the weathering of an X-Wing and would be much simpler to produce. I don't know of anyone working on a kit right now. Any thoughts????

(this is my first thread start...please move it if it's in the wrong place...)

a SS kits does exist, but I forget who's making it. Someone was also making a 1/24 scale bomber kit (twice the size of studio scale), but I'm unsure is he is planning on kitting it.

Check out resinilluminati.com I think that's where I saw the builds. That's the best resource for info on SS kits in my opinion.

I'm a regular lurker on resinilluminati and haven't seen anyone doing it... :confused

remember when you want the real "ss" scale for a tie bomber it's like 1/35 scale. The 1/24th scale is much much much larger.

Wasn't the original based on parts from the AMT DV TIE? Anyone know what parts were used? It doesn't look like an overly tough scratchbuild.

There was a kit made a while back.

Here's a great article on doing your own:

Does anyone offer resin copies of the model peices you need for any of these SS projects? It seems a bit extreme to buy these kits if someone who had one could drop the three or four relevant bits in some silicone. Or is that a no-no? It's not like recasting and selling the whole kit, on an ethical level, is it?

Buying the kits is the nature of the beast in studio scale shen, its how we play....but its not a no no to have parts cast, especially if you need them replicated many times on the model.
Purists will go for OE parts, pure and simple, but with clean casting, the same result will follow.

I do agree, a new TIE bomber is LONG overdue, i keep looking at my donor stash and thinking whether to build my own, and get rid of the resin build up i have....very tempting, looks such a fun build!

Indeed! The SS TIE Bomber IS long overdue to be created and sold.

Rolando... is that SSM kit still sold? I didn't know they had one. Is it SS?

That is Rolando's old kit. It was studio scale, yes. Built one in 2002 - it was a dream.

i would suspect the hard part about casting individual donor pieces for the TB would be casting the "comb/picket-fence" of the leopold. not impossible, just needs some special attention in order to minimize cleanup for the end user.

True Quincy, but why cast a Leo? Pretty much a waste of rubber, as with much of the TIE bomber, as "most" of the kits are available readily at decent money and the end result would all the more beatiful!

Casting the vintage stuff would be the best idea?
