Okay, I've got the hammer, now I need a place to put it. What do you guys do with your hammers when you're not wielding them? Any suggestions for a display piece?

I'm in the middle of my display-build right now. It should be ready in a week or so.

Will post pix. :)

I am in the process of gathering all the stuff to make a hammer.
Once it is finished I plan on making a display like this.

I was thinking of making something like that too, but I find it just takes up so much room, I'd like to have something that'd hold the hammer on the wall. BlindSquirrel's blog has a tutorial for a wall-mount holder for his hoplite sword, I was thinking of something along those lines, I'm just worried that the parts of the hammer that would be touching the holder would be scuffed...

Just regular old acrylic. Some washes, and some dry brushing, sealed with satin clear.

YEAH... I FINALLY FINISHED MINE...

Thanks to BLINDSQUIRREL and his AWESOME tutorial...

MY MJOLNIR...

RPF wont allow me to post the pics from my MSN picture page.

I'll dirty up the hammer and handle when I have a free moment to make it look a little more authentic, and then finish up the OTHER 4 I made...

Thanks.

Damian

You did a fine job on that hammer. Does this mean there's a Thor costume in your future?

Awesome job, Damian. The head turned out great and I really like the texture of the hammered paint.

Nothing like the heft of a MDF hammer..

Re: Thor's Hammer Mjolnir

I had some scap lumber laying around so I decided to build my own Mjolnir, mainly patterned after the Walt Simonson version.

I made it extra big... 24" long with a heavy 9" x 6' x 4" head. Any mortal SHOULD feel like a girly-man when picking it up (assuming he be worthy :p )

Build up photos (as always) are on the blog.
Hey I saw your hammer and it made me want to build one. I'll try to put a picture If I can but I'm on my phone though. Mine still isn't finished but I have the basic shape.

I have followed your "prop" making style since 2005. You, Sir, are an inspiration to the "beginning" prop maker. You show that it can be done cheaply, efficiently and still look like it was professionally made! Reminds me of when I was 16 and I made my first Star Trek Classic "wooden" communicator with a block of 2"X4", strip of aluminum, large buttons, wooden dowel, Lite-Brite pegs, Crazy glue, black automotive paint, styrene runners, and perforated plastic. I have always admired your Thor's Mjolnir and plan to use your techniques to make one for a favorite uncle of mine for his birthday.
