Theo Jansen Build

I am pretty obsessed with the Sculptures of Theo Jansen.

I am trying to source the name, Part Number, Original Manufacturer..... ANY THING about the Electrical Conduit pipe that Theo Jansen uses in his Sculptures.

I know that its super wide spread (or was in Holland) and that everyone uses it there by law.

Here is a clear image of the pipes.

Hi,
here in Holland we call them ELECTRA PVC BUIS or ELECTRA PVC PIJP.
We use them to guide electrical wires.
These pipes are availlable in all meassurments and are sold in every shop that handels in construction materials(the major stores are :Gamma and Praxis)
The major brand is "Wafin"
These pipes manly come in grey(disposal of water),white(suply of water)and in yellow(electrical)
I am not sure if these pipes have a special name but i could find this out if you'd like me to.
I hope this information is of some help.
You could also try to contact the website that shows these "strandbeesten"
Maybe Theo used custom made tubes but i doubt that.

I forgot all about him,..how could i? ,..his work is amazing.

I did some search on Theo and there has been a publication about his work.
It comes as a book+dvd and is called "Theo Jansen The great pretender"
Maybe you allready heard about this.
This book is full of information about the concepts behind his art,the way he constructs these mobiles and the different periods of his artworks.
I also read that he got his pvc pipes for free by a manufacturer,which name is unknown to me.
The color starts out as yellow but changes when exposed to rain and sun and time.
He used several diameters and some were shaped by the artist himsef through heating,plain bending,sawing.
I hope this gives you some more insight

Yeah I really want the book but don't get this months pay check till Monday and had to buy a holiday this month!

hopefully it gives some detail of his other mechanisms, the "liars" etc.

I was watching Adam Savage make one of the desktop-sized versions of these things.

I'm going to have to try my hand at one of those, they're pretty cool.

Yeah i've had done one of them, you can get them on ebay if you search "Theo Jansen" If you wanna just read up on them online Google "Gakken No 30 Theo Jansen" .

Try the manufacturer of these pvc pipes.the Wavin group.
Wavin.nl Nederland
Wavin.com Europe i even found them in the UK.
Wavin.co.uk
Also found a dutch suplier that sells internationally.
www.pvconline.nl they only carry 2 diameter sizes though.17&19cm.

Theo also sells 3d printed 'windbeest' creations through Shapeways:

I bought the book a while back and love it. I've been fascinated with his stuff for a long time and think the mechanics of the linkages are just amazing
