    Hi guys,

I thought you would like to see what I have been up to this week.

I have been making Indiana Jones Golden idols for here and a couple of other forums and whilst I was at the Vac Metalizing company that did the original Idols and C3P0 coincidentally I thought why not get a TK lid chromed!

Well it's not completely finished yet but you get the idea.... I haven't decided yet about decals.... What colour etc??? Or none at all??

    What do you reckon?

    holy freaking awesome!!!!

I would paint the teeth and rank on the ears, and go no decals myself.

    Thanks guys.
    Pm replied. :)

I think this takes it from film prop to art piece. I think a full suit of armour would look amazing and I am thinking about it.
I reckon a full piece in a gallery would look awesome.
Maybe people not as geeky as prop collector but more art collectors would like it. In a minimalist apartment would look very cool.

According to EU Canon, aren't RadTroopers decked out in Chrome Stormtrooper armor?

Wow that is an awesome lid! I would love to see a fully chromed trooper! I can't imagine the look on someone's face if they saw that walking down the street. But then again, I wouldn't be surprised if it was just a display piece. Again, love the lid! Great idea!

HOLY CRAP THIS IS AMAZING. I wasn't sure what I'd think when clicking on the thread, seeing the title, but as soon as I saw it, I wanted one.

^ THIS. Especially a full suit, just casually chilling in a corner... like an updated yet still somewhat retro incarnation of a suit of armour!

I'd like to imagine the Empire gave those helmets to any of the stormtroopers who survived the first Death Star explosion. Looks pretty * cool.

Very cool. My vote is for the solid black where the paint or decals would be. :thumbsup

I'd personally do all the details like the cheeks and mouth and trapezoids just about the same as they would be on a traditional lid, but in a flat paint to give some neat contrasts. the stripes I wouldn't be able to decide on however.
    This looks awesome!

As i have been a chrome plater for the 7 years this is something that i think is really awesome. But i just think that it maybe too much chrome. Have you thought of trying it with brushed metal accents...GM

You know with the black, it makes the chrome really pop. So much better this way. My question now is when can we get a Vader helmet...GM

I use a process called vacuum metalizing. The same process I use for the Indiana cherubs and idols I sell.

I thought I'd post a bit of an update to this.

I am building a workshop and renovating and extending our new home. Once that's complete I'm investing in a Spraychrome system.

So if it's not nailed down..........

    1. How did I miss this thread?

    2. How does the spray chrome compare to the vac-metalized on the finished product?

Congrats on the shop and home add on! :)

    Hi mate,

    1. No idea!

    2. It is pretty indistinguishable from vacuum metalizing... I'd say it is easier with the correctly prepped surface and can be done in a spray booth with a drip tray..... It is lacquered afterwards to protect the surface.
