Gotta wonder how this will affect the availability.

If it isn't coming from USPS, it won't.
Pretty straightforward.

Most likely, it’s determined on a case-by-case basis whether merchants comply with any enacted tariffs, penalties, duties, etc. My hope is that once it is determined that a company (Wand) is in compliance, they would send it through

So I asked Chris Barnardo about shipping and received this reply. It turns out I was wrong about the tariff impact.

They will be shipped from China to the US and the UK warehouses. Products manufactured in China are now kindly subject to tariffs going into the US regardless of where they are shipped from. every product manufactured in China has to bear the words, “made in China”. We could not have swapped the manufacturing to another country even with years of notice, as relationships to manufacture taken years if not decades to build up. Also if we were manufacturing the Tricorder in the Uk or the US it would cost between twice and five times more to make (as a guess), if it could even be done in either of those countries.

Chris Barnardo commented that my posting about the manual was a bit premature. The manual is not yet completed; I guess I found a link that was not yet ready for release. So there may still be some small changes before it is finalized and officially posted.

That makes sense – otherwise every company in the world could bypass the tarrifs by routing products though a middleman country.
China has been doing that through Canada and Mexico, as well as skating by on other products with the de minimus exemption, which I believe has been closed.

EDIT-- Yup. Just looked it up, the de minimus exemption has indeed been closed (with respect to China), and I think the tricorder would have come in duty free under it, since it was set at $800.

Ccancellation of de minimis trade exemption targeting China imports has been delayed
