The Walking Dead - TV-Spoilers-thru-current-episode-only discussion?

Sorry for the second thread, and the super-specific title, but I tried to follow the other conversation and kept having to quickly avert my eyes to not read something about what happens to the characters in the graphic novels - which I haven't read - and which could spoil future episodes of the series... Anyone want to discuss the show only?

I found I couldn't wait for week 2! The second episode wasn't as stellar as the first, but still great and gripping television. Everyone I know seems to be in agreement that the wife moved on awfully quickly, but do we have any solid idea of how long our main character laid in the hospital?

Some of what I wrote in the other thread concerning last night's episode, and I would not be concerned about ANYTHING that happens in the comic, because we seem to be deviating somewhat away from it in some ways so far. All of which I am okay with so far.

I enjoyed the changes from the comic, and also the Zombies with dexterity, motor skills and cognitive thinking, which is not good for our survivors. The zombie that was able to break into the store using a rock, and the climbing Zombie were very troubling. it was also cool to see the sewer Zombie eating a rat.

I wonder if at some point we will see some Zombie animals, ala Resident Evil (dogs)? Some great lines in this show just like the first as well. Loved what Glen said to Rick about riding into town like Clint Eastwood, yee-haw, your still a dumb *%$!

Great stuff

Anyone take the survival test on the AMC site yet? I did, got Natural Leader
The Walking Dead - Survival Test - AMC

Not since Lost, have I looked so forward to watching a show on T.V. I a really loving the show so far. As far as how long Rick has been in a coma, based only off of the dead flowers, I would gestimate a couple of weeks only.

Ah, okay - if it's that different from the comic, and the comic won't ruin what happens on the show, I guess I can just follow the other thread! Thanks man.

I might hod off on that. I was listening to an Interview with the creator/writer of walking dead and he said that it will follow the comic book in certain aspects. He says minor characters may be somewhat different. They could have things added to them or change throughout the course, but it will still follow the comic book as in main characters, deaths, etc etc

I don't know about this show. I've read the comics up to a point and then gave up because of some really bad cliche storytelling.

I really hope the show deviates considerably from the source material. Much like the books Dexter is based on are just awful but the show is amazingly well done. True Blood is somewhat the same in that it's based on vampire romance novels. Of course the last season and a half weren't too good.

But anyway, I am so sick of people in post apocalyptic scenarios doing stupid things!! Why, oh why, would they not just kill that Dixon guy!? He's an ******* who's going to get them killed. There are no rules anymore so I wouldn't suffer that guy in the least. I'd toss him off the roof and use him as the distraction. Why would the black guy feel sorry for him and want to unlock the cuffs? Dixon is a racist, sexist *******!!! And he's a terribly written character to boot. Cookie cutter villain anyone? At least he locked the door to the roof as well during his retreat.

Also, they put entrails and blood on themselves to blend their smell in with the zombies. It works perfectly. Uh oh! It's starting to rain! Of course it is! We need a dramatic problem! How convenient! Let's not consider that the rain would drastically hinder the zombies sense of smell in the first place. Oh yeah, and they're still wearing feet, hands and intestines that would be generating plenty of smell.

And why didn't Rick try and start up that tank? I'm guessing it didn't run out of gas. Hit some buttons! It can't be that hard to drive! Rick leaves the tank, hits a zombie with a shovel and then... leaves the shovel!!! Keep that sucker! Swing it! Keep them at bay, otherwise ya gotta use your arms!!

For once I'd like a zombie / post-apocalyptic story where people make logical decisions. At least Walking Dead isn't as bad as the British show The Survivors. Yet.

I love the zombies. The general atmosphere of the show is incredible. I'm really hoping for some original storytelling with lots of zombie action.

And if Dixon comes back to cause trouble for the group in a later episode, I might just have to quit watching the show. Much like I quit reading the comic.

Sorry for what turned into a rant. Just an opinion getting thrown into the interwebs.

Well it seems from the preview to next episode when they get back dixon has a brother who is upset and our cop hero decieds to go back for him.

Like that's a smart decision.

Let's save the racist *******! He'll be so helpful to our group! We'll always have to keep an eye on him and worry he'll get a gun and try to take over! And he'll more than likely rape the women! Yeah, he's useful! Let's save him!

but he's Francis from Left 4 Dead, you can't leave Francis!

I'm pretty sure I would have put a bullet in his head... although I like the idea of using him as a distraction... it just seems a bit cruel for a hero. The bullet in his head would be logical and merciful. I'd conclude that he's too dangerous to take with us... especially since he's ticked that he got handcuffed in the first place. Shooting him in the head would be more merciful than letting the zombies tear him up or him dying of dehydration on the roof.

As for him coming back… of course he is. That’s why the character was introduced in the first place. It looked as though T-Dog knocked over the toolbox containing a hacksaw within reach of Dixon, that he hasn’t noticed yet. I highly doubt that shot of him knocking over the toolbox was just a creative cinematic decision.

As for people doing stupid things… well that will happen in a panic. Sometimes your reactions aren’t the right ones.

I'm fine with the differences between show and source material. I saw or read something where they said, why would you want to see the exact same thing you just read. Love the comics and really enjoying the show.

I havent seen the Survivors (is it a zombie show?) but loved the Dead Set show. Hopefully this show can last awhile, as zombies are my favorite monsters.

I totally agree with them not doing an exact retelling of the comic. Both can stand on their own merits.

Dead Set was phenomenal!! I really enjoyed that one! I would have fed the producer guy to the zombies early on, though.

The Survivors premise was kind of the The Stand where some virus killed 99% of the population and the people left behind had to figure out what to do. It was full of insane characters that made stupid decisions at every turn. It was really frustrating to watch.

I was disappointed with the "lover sneaking up and scaring the female in the woods" opening, about as cliche' as you can get. Complete with stalking POV shots and the "You A-hole" and all. Other than that, I liked the episode and was glad it broke away from Darabont's snails-pace directing.

I think the wife was already hooked up with his partner before he was in the hospital. He said that he and his wife were fighting all the time. It made sense that she hooked up with the partner. It will be some good drama for future episodes. Great show. Went back and watched the first 2 with the wife last week. I think she likes it. She was grossed out a few times.

Sweet

Gah! The Walking Dead gets worse!

Episode 3 was terrible. I spent quite a bit of it yelling at the screen. These characters are morons. Well, I actually like Shane. He's the smartest and most logical guy in the group. Everything he's done has made sense. It's obvious he's the reason they're still alive. (He should have quietly killed Merle and the wife beater when he had the chance, though.) Lori is a *****. I understand why she would be upset at Shane when Rick came back, but come on, given the situation Rick should have been dead like Shane said. I don't think Shane lied to get in her pants. He completely believed he was right and odds were, he was. I guess her reaction is understandable since she believes that Shane lied to her deliberately.

In fact, the idea that zombies didn't eat the comatose living flesh of Rick is pretty ridiculous. I guess the zombie famous sense of smell didn't bring a single one back into the hospital looking for food.

As for Lori... she should tell Rick. They didn't really do anything wrong. Other than having unprotected sex during a zombie holocaust. Because being pregnant in that environment is so very smart. Gah! Why would you risk such a thing? Maybe eventually when you're not living in tents in the forest and the zombies are under control you'd want to have some more kids...

The wife beater. Really? They put up with this *******? REALLY?!?! They know he beats his wife and they let him?!? I was so glad when Shane, fresh off being dumped by Lori and needing to vent some anger, went after him. Shane should have killed him. It's no more than he deserves. This is a new world!! No laws!! People don't have to suffer this **** anymore because there's no fear of breaking a law in doing so! Kill him! He's obviously useless and puts ALL the women in danger just by existing.

Rick going back to save Merle. I'm not even going to touch this. It's so very stupid.

I guess Merle's brother is somewhat useful in that he can hunt... But he's a dick, too. They need to keep him in check or feed him to the "geeks."

And Merle cut off his own hand instead of the handcuffs or the pole he was cuffed to? What was he doing for all that time? Only after he's delirious with heat exposure he starts looking around him for a way out and spots the hacksaw? I would have done that within minutes of being left there. And if my belt wasn't getting the job done I would have tried my pants! How about scooting under that pipe and reaching with your legs? Anything to get that saw. And hacksaws do cut through metal. The zombies were having a hard time getting through the door. When Rick shows up, the chain is still on and there are no zombies on the roof which indicates that they didn't squeeze through the gap. So Merle should have had time.

In the next episode they had better do the zombie guts thing and just walk out to get the guns. It obviously worked and only another bout of really lazy writing would make it rain at just that moment again. Oh wait...

I keep watching and hoping. I think I'll be disappointed. It's definitely gone into Survivors territory.

There is so much potential here. The world is beautifully imagined. The zombies are awesome. There are some really good moments happening here and there. But ultimately the story and characters are quite poor.

I guess I'm looking for something different in my survival horror.

Damn that was good. They wandered away from the books with the Glenn captured thing, but loved the assault on the camp and the death of Amy. Really heart wrenching and reminding the audience characters are in mortal danger. Looking forward to what must happen in the days after that assault. I hope they keep it true to the book, it's too awesome to screw up.

I absolutely loved how the standoff with the gang turned upside down when abuela showed up. Nice bit of bluffing by Guillermo.

Did they bump up Amy's death in the time line? Loved the zombie attack.
Looks like they are setting up more allies for the group with the old folks home. Just in time to meet some really bad guys?
