The show is an hour long because people watch it, and love hearing and talking with their friends about the walking dead after the show. Talking Dead got more viewers last month at one point than ALL of NBC's shows. For the entire month.
THAT is why it is an hour long. No way in hell do they regret that right now. And while some of the lesser known guests are bad, some of them were great. Same with the famous ones. Kevin smith, for instance, sucked. He knew nothing of the material, and was clearly just there because AMC wanted to pimp out his comic book show.
And as for the person who said the "sword girl" developed a personality out of nowhere, you clearly are not a reader of the comic, are you?
She's exactly like she is in the comic. She was a loner, and had to survive with those pets for a loooonggg time before she met anyone else she could begin to trust. And the pets? They were her friend and boyfriend. It was great seeing her talk slightly about that to rick last night, and yet still not give away more info than she was willing. Many people on the show and in the comic give away far too much info to people that they can not trust, and then get screwed for it later. Michonne is more guarded, and more of an observer. In the comic, I think she was a lawyer before everything went down.
Bottom line though is that they are trying to stick to the comic as far as her being quite, and withdrawn. And a lot of us support that. Not everyone has to win you over with their personality every week. You also had issues with her "jedi" like sword wielding, which is her ENTIRE ESSENCE. That is what makes Michonne awesome. How someone could have issues with that is beyond me. She is a pure killing machine. And when she isn't killing in the comic, she's screwing.
The comic has a lot more backstory (especially regarding her beef and treatment by the governor) that lead to her being so reclusive, and unwilling to trust, and forceful with men sexually. But that may not be the way the show plays it. Either way, they are keeping her character traits in line with the comic as much as they can for the different story line, and a lot of us appreciate it.
Give her character time. She's barely been in the mix, and nobody trusts her. That changed with this episode. She'll get good development from now on, that is for sure. But don't expect her to lose the sword, or EVER become a chatty and happy person. it's not her, and never will be. And IMHO, it's what makes her one of the coolest characters on the show (and the coolest in the comic, since daryl was not in the comic).
