The Video Game Thread - anything and everything...

I was so frustrated fall after fall, i YouTubed all the cut scenes. Im not a gamer, the main reason I bought it was for the story

It's a solid game but definitely has flaws. I think a lot of the praise comes from years of EA giving us junk so by comparison this feels like a better game than it might otherwise be.

Definitely this. In the grand scheme, its not an amazing game and not a faithful Star Wars game since as mentioned, the saber is more a baton or regular sword rather than a laser sword of death. This was due to the fact that the combat system was based off FromSoft’s Sekiro parry system so the intention is for the player to parry the opponents, deplete their “balance” bars, then insta-kill with a strike or two which is more “lightsaber-like”.

So the key to making the game “fun” to learning when to parry so you can quickly deplete bars which can be fun when playing 1 v 1 against purge troopers or bosses.

When against a group of enemies, most of the time you are on a platform or edge so you can force push to get rid of mooks or creatures.

Can give advice for more specific areas if needed but the goal of the game is to mostly play defensively, strike only when its safe, and focus on parrying and dodging to preserve health.

Hitman 3 Year Two bundle just revealed and looks pretty impressive.

Also Strategy/Mercenary management simulator Battle Brothers just got released on Xbox and Playstation platforms today, finally.

So I got Cyberpunk 2077 for Christmas, and I don't understand it at all.
I don't know what I'm doing or why I'm doing it. Everyone is speaking in slang that I don't understand, but the character I'm playing does, which makes it more confusing.
Am I a thief, a mercenary? What am I? Why am I doing these things?
What am I doing?
I did a thing called BrainFarting, or some such nonsense, and I didn't understand it at all. I did what the screen prompts told me to do, without understanding a damn bit of it.
Does anybody like this game?
Has anyone played it?
Is it worth learning WTF is going on?
I can't get immersed in it at all because every single moment I'm struggling to understand what's happening and how to do things.
I feel like I need a college text book just to understand the leveling trees and inventory system.
I'm super frustrated.

I'm more Shadowrun than Cyberpunk, but there is a lot of crossover between the two universes and they share some of the same slang or very similar slang and players classes i.e.

Solo / Street Samurai - Mercenary gun for hire. Not to be confused with Razorgirl or Razorboy who are pretty much the same but don't follow any personal codes of conduct.

Decker / Net Runner - Hacking specialists.

Chummer / Choomba - slang word for friend or buddy.

Shadowrun slang glossary.

Cyberpunk slang glossary.

Ok so I finished the story part of Zeffo and moved on to Kashyyyk. Then I uninstalled. This game has some of the worst design I've seen in a while. The amount of places you get into only to discover "Uh oh you don't have the upgrades for this" is beyond ridiculous. They should block those areas. Then you have the play mechanics of die 5 times to figure out what they game designer wants you to do. Yes it's a play mechanic, but I should at least see where they want me to go. I'm talking the slides that take you around a corner and then you have to decide in a split sec where you're supposed to jump, without being able to see any indication of where to go. Not a fan. They should have copied the newer Tomb Raider games which did what they were trying to do, correctly. I'd say if you haven't played Jedi Fallen Order, buy or reinstall Jedi Outcast. It's a much better Jedi game.

You'll find out more about the plot of the game as you go along and there's definitely a plot to this game and one I liked quite a bit.

As to who you are, that's largely up to you. One of the nice things about the game is that you're confined to just one play style. You can build your character to be more like a traditional shooter-type character that relied primarily on guns. Or you can go the melee route and focus on melee combat, getting up close and slicing and dicing your enemies. Alternately, you can go brawler and simply punch your opponents to death, not easy, but doable. Or you can go the hacker route, specializing in cybernetics that allows you to hack your opponents to death from stealth. Or if you prefer, you do a blend of everything, although that's generally recommended since you don't have enough skill points to spread it much beyond one primary stat, a secondary, and a few in others just to round your character out or get certain skills.

The game is basically an open-world shooter style RPG. And because it's an open world game it's not going to tell you when and how to play the game. While, as I said, there is a definite plot/story to the game, you don't have to take or play any of the main story missions until you feel like it and, instead, focus on the side gigs or random encounters until you feel ready to tackle the main story missions. Alternately, you can ignore all of the side gigs and focus on just the main story missions; but doing so will likely mean that you will into these missions a bit below the curve since these side missions are good ways of leveling up your character and getting new weapons and armor. You can also romance certain characters in the game if you want. Some romance characters are gender restricted while others are romanceable regardless of your character's gender.

I'd stick with the game. I had a blast playing it and I really enjoyed the story. Tales of intrigue, friendship, love, betrayals, loyalty; one of the best stories in a video game that I've ever played. And if you don't rush through it and take your time doing a bunch of the side quests, the free DLC should be out and ready for you to play once you've finished the main game.

Sounds like with the checkpoint based save system it makes the game extra frustrating. I don't mind tricky game mechanics necessarily, but I do hate it when it's combined with a checkpoint save. To me, there's nothing worse than playing a checkpoint save game, having a hard time with a certain part, then die when you finally get past it only to find that there's no save point yet. I ran into that with the first Assassin's Creed and I uninstalled it out of frustration because of it.

I blame the backwards console heathens for the fact we still have checkpoint systems! ;) There's really no reason to even do that now that consoles have hard drives. I've just gotten to the point that if I get a game and it doesn't click with me and it's not fun, it's time to move on to something else. I miss the mid/late 90s when every game had a demo with at least a couple levels so you could try it out. Of course crappy games couldn't sell so they had to stop that. You can't even rely on reviews because some reviewer may love a game and give it a high score, but it just isn't your thing.

But I felt so safe every time I saw one

I know this feeling. The last time I had heard of any locally being in stock I had four bills to pay so decided to hold off until next pay day and of course when I do have the money there are none to be found anywhere.
