The Ultimate X-Wing Pilot Thread

Can you take a close up of it and the strap?
Any detail pix of the interior like attachment points, etc would be cool.

yes my FAF Rogue One helmet has those sliders pushed way up to the top of the strap so this one must have gone "rogue" and made itself visible while being used. Thats a detail i never noticed before.

The FAC helmets come with a simple foam pad at the top of the helmet glued on the cap plate so you can add whatever padding you like for use. The chin strap is fed through small slits in the upper cap plate that separates the outer shell from the wearers head. It also prevents the visor and sliding visor mechanism from getting in the way during wear. The cap plate is usually white plastic and the foam is hot glued inside, which is what those squiggly lines are on my bucket. I have removed my liner so you can see the strap mount inside. The sliders are simply to connect the ends of the strap so it doesnt slide back through the cap plate and come undone.

On an actual helmet, the visor would be in the protected visor cover mounted on top of the helmet, but this modified visor is too large to be accommodated inside the cover so this is partially why the helmet was vac-formed in the first place. The cap plate is then used to represent the original helmet shell under the visor and cover so the head is at a normal position inside the helmet.

The original APH or HGU chinstrap would be around the wearers neck just under the ears and attached to the back of the helmet shell and adjustable so the helmet sits snugly with the strap tighening at the lower jaw line. Hope that all makes sense.

I was super lucky to visit The Mandalorian Experience back in SW Celebration, as you may know by now. I did notice that Gor Koresh was sporting a Glove Comm Unit as a ring. Didn't notice that from the show. So I took so many photos as I could. Later I discovered that Trapper Wolf was at display and I did the same. I modeled this per request from a fellow Rebel Legion member from UK. Have been looking for a proper way to print it, as well do the PCB printed at the same time using FDM technology. I know resin printers will do a great job for sure, but I do have a CR-10S. Model is done, and I was looking for screen used PCB patterns to include with. Will show you more progress during this week for sure.

Looks to me exactly like Rogue One comm pads, except for the exact PCB pattern. I suspect the pattern could be different on each comm pad.

The ESB comm pad is a little bit different: the box has sloping walls, making the top faces slightly trapezoidal. I also suspect (but have not got verified) that its five teeth are of transparent plastic.

Edit: Posted this to provide context, so that people don't get confused. (Nothing goes over my head - I'm too fast!)

It is indeed a R1 Glove Comm Unit. Have been doing R1 models last month. I believe you misunderstood my post. ESB Comm Unit is quite different. They used the same part that Lando uses as mic for his Bespin communicator. Will probably model a screen accurate model as well, since I never saw a good one offered.

The R1 PCB boards are different on each comm.

The ESB comm part is also on the rear gunners dash in the speeder.

I'm happy to see comm pads being discussed. I was really surprised to see that no one had accurate comm pads at Celebration this year. I went out of my way asking Rebel Legion members if they knew where to find one but no one seems to know what an accurate one looks like. I have seen one accurate ESB replica within the past year and I've asked permission to share images with the RPF. I have both an ESB and Blue Squadron costume that just need an accurate comm pad so I would love to see someone nail this.

It seems that nobody care about screen accuracy anymore. Everybody wants buy the parts made and don't ask questions. Looks like the part I am looking for? meh...yes...almost. Stay tuned

Final model's render. Extra photos in my Instagram post. I you have another pattern that I am missing, in high resolution, I will be gladly to add it. Any questions or feedback will be welcome.

the.rebel.agent its looking nice but it seems like it is raised too high.
Hey, thanks for your feedback. Just take your second image. let's say base is about 3mm tall. Just count how many pixels the first step have, and later the taller one. I used two images and take the mu. I believe that could be a 1mm + or less estimating from the distance I was standing. Is that what you say? angles could be deceiving

Apologies because I'm not very good with graphics. Maybe if you can position the 3D render at the same angle as the photo it may help to compare it? I tried blending the two images but they're a bit off. I traced the edges of the photo so it would stand out more.

Where I'm not sure if they are repaints. Got a Production made Rogue One X-Wing helmet. It has the same sliders.
I reached out to Cal and based on the pictures I sent their way from Celebration, they believe it's a repaint.

Do you mind sharing pics of your helmet? Would love to see the paint job :)
