Hello everyone! I've started a project that I've been wanting to do for close to 19 years, so here I am.

Twister is my favorite movie by far, and I first saw it as when I was 5 in 1996. I at the time already have a great love for science, and this movie introduced me to meteorology.

I was going to go to Oklahoma University, in Norman, OK for a degree in meteorology, but after some digging and talking to meteorologists out in the field, it's a very hard career to break into. So I ran with another thing I liked, and joined BNSF, the railroad, which has helped fund a lot of my hobbies.

Last year my dad was diagnosed with several forms of cancer, and we both sat down and decided "Hey, y'know what, let's do this to keep you (me) busy and happy, since you love Twister!" And here I am.

I went down to Norman, OK in the truck to go see the Severe Prediction Center, Norman Weather Center, National Weather Center, and the National Severe Storms Labs. They had one of the Dorothy's from the movie there, and I measured the HELL out of it. Also stopped by Wakita, saw the Twister movie museum, saw some cool stuff and came back. I have the truck, and Dorothy V is in fabrication right now.

I decided on going with Dorothy V instead of I-IV, as those already existed in the movie, and so this is their "next attempt" if I'm trying to be in-universe. I'm going all out- the lights, the siren, a false-top with a pop cooler in the middle, hopefully it'll look just as good as its movie sisters.

I plan on having it done sometime this summer, and I'll be storm chasing in it next month. I'm also going to be refilming segments of Twister, and I'm also meeting Cary Elwes in March, and hopefully meeting Bill Paxton in September, when Wakita holds the "Twister 20th Anniversary" party.

You can keep up with the project at https://www.facebook.com/ThePaxtonmobile

And now, for pictures!

(that's me parked exactly where the truck was parked in front of Aunt Meg's house, all that remains is the lot)

Great to see a Twister replicar. One of the screen used Jeep trucks that Jo drove is up the road from me in Guthrie. Checked it out last year and I would love to get my hands on it for a restoration.

I've been meaning to go check that out sometime. I actually tried to find an actual Ram from the movie, but they crushed them all.

And status update on Dorothy V, the barrel will be done in the next week or so, and me and my friend from work will be welding the frame and instrument mounts up in the coming weeks.

Does anyone have an idea where I can find a siren like the one from the movie? Is there such a thing as an "emergency services surplus store"?

So, I have to ask.: Do you have full coverage on that truck, or is it liability only? J/k

I, myself, actually wanted a toy version of the Bill's truck (Dorothy and all) after seeing the movie for the first time. Seeing that you're planning on doing this replicar, I'm interested to see how it turns out. Are you planning on having the hail and truck bed damage or will you keep the truck in its current condition?

It really is liability only!

It actually does have super light hail damage on it. I'm going to repaint it this year or next. As for further damage, probably not. I plan on getting another truck like this to beat up while storm chasing. I'm going with "the truck somehow survived the f5" to keep in-universe. I'm also getting a personalized license plate of "F5PRF".

Got some progress! :D Dorothy V's framework starts mid-February, should be done by March, and hopefully everything, lights, sound, instruments, gadgets and greeblies will be done sometime in July.

Got more progress! Barrel is painted and decaled, got more decals and text to add way later on but for now it's done. Should be mounted in the frame by the end of this week, depending on when we can get the wheel boxes fabricated, welded on, and the barrel cut and mounted.

Got more work to do, but she's getting there. Very excited to have it all done in about a month or so. (you have to click on the pictures for fullsize)

I am so JEALOUS!
Aside from wanting a red Dodge 2500 in that spec (though I don't mind the 5.9 magnum), Dorthy is the cherry on top of the cake. And it looks really good so far; the prop and the truck. And perhaps its fate that the ad on the page as I'm writing this is for CB radios.
