The Thirteenth Floor

I watch a ton of movies, but a few get missed every now and then. I just watched this movie for the first time, and I am very surprised it isn't more popular. It only has 27% on rottentomatoes. I thought it was great.

I remember it being an interesting concept which was overshadowed by two other "We're IN the computer!!" movies at the time (The Matrix and eXistenZ). Execution of the concept I don't remember being all that compelling, though. And then, weirdly, it seemed like both Craig Bierko and Gretchen Mol just...dropped off the planet for a while.

I myself like this movie. I will admit, I fell into that Matrix trap like everyone else when it came to movies in the theater. But when I saw the movie on DVD, I liked it even more than The Matrix and was sort of kicking myself for not having to have seen it in the theaters.

Solo4114- Actually, after the film, both Gretchen Mol and Craig Bierko continued on doing film work, but the films weren't as well known. Gretchen Mol, for example, actually did two films I have in my DVD collection along with The Thirteenth Floor, The Shape of Things (2003) and The Notorious Bettie Page (2006), in which she played the iconic pin-up. She's switched over to TV work after appearing in the remake of 3:10 to Yuma, appearing in the U.S. version of Life on Mars and her current regular role in Boardwalk Empire. For Craig Bierko, he ended up in movies like Scary Movie 4, For Your Consideration and appeared in the show Damages. Ironically, both Vincent D'Onofrio and Dennis Haysbert ended up continuing work in film, ending up in roles that ended up making them somewhat popular.

Yeah, I LOVE her in Boardwalk Empire. I completely forgot she was in 3:10 to Yuma, though. And I never saw the US Life on Mars (I did, however, see and LOVE the UK version). Bierko I have no recollection of in For Your Consideration. Who'd he play in that?

Bierko played a Talk Show Host in the film. It may have been one of those "so small, if you blink and you'll miss it" roles.
