Well, I watched a few episodes and clips on youtube and now I'm really into The Stig and Top Gear, I know what he actually wears in the show and I was wondering if anyone knew any good but cheaper alternatives.

The Simpson helmet is very unique. You might be able to pep that. I did a quick search and couldn't find any white suits that were less than $500. How's your sewing skills? You might be able to mod a set of coveralls to get the racing suit look. What kind of budget are you looking at?

I was looking for a paint suit for when i paint my cars this spring and thought the Kimberly-Clark Krew Suit Coveralls looked like the stig. For $9 at autobodystore.

Maybe $50 for the helmet, the rest I was figuring modding some kind of pre-existing clothes I find at goodwill.

I'm looking for close to the one's from:

Episode 7 (Caterham challenge):
Simpson Diamondback helmet
Alpinestars gloves
Alpinestars racing suit
Alpinestars shoes (Not 100% sure on this...)

Only I would like to find cheaper alternatives, the suit is almost $500, the Helmet is almost $600, and the Gloves are around $30, and I don't even know how much the shoes are.

You definitely need to go with the Simpson Diamondback helmet, that seems like the most recognizable helmet of his.

Like I said, I can afford maybe $50 for the helmet, not $500, there must be someone who's modded a cheap helmet to look like it or knows a knock off of it, almost everything has a knock-off version.

I don't even think you'll be able to find a full face helmet for that price, maybe an old used one on the net somewhere?

yup, that's what I figured, or a flea market or something, full face helmets are $60 at the cheapest, and now that I think about it, they are made to protect your head, so I probably don't have the tools required to cut through one, I'll probably end up looking for a toy one in adult sizes.

your best bet is the local craigslist, swap or ebay for a cheap used fullface, then add some White ABS to make it look like a Simpson helmet.
note there are some kart racing shoes for about 50.00 - maybe there are some pumas or similar that can be found cheaper?

theres all kinds of full face helmets on ebay for like $39-$49 buy it now.... they arent something i'd use for riding, but for this.... why not?
a white helmet, white suit, white gloves, and anyone who knows who the stig is, will know what you're going for.

You might be able to get an open face helmet off of eBay and build it up with either fiberglass or sheets of ABS/sintra. It'll require a lot of work but you could pull it off within your budget.

another thing I was considering was something like this:

It's a Licensed Stig costume and the jump suit looks decent enough to just mod, they are going for like $40 at ebay and I could add a back to the mask and harden the mask somehow to make it better.
