The SFS stormtrooper helmet replica, new and improved.

And here it is painted up in photoshop. Please excuse the rough job and the slightly wrong/muted colors. It's just a rough example.

Nice project, Carsten!
I´d love to get one of the mini helmets whenever they come available!
:):thumbsup

Looks really good. Cool project!:thumbsup

Was that scan in your first post showing in ZBrush Carsten?

Carsten,

This is AWESOME news! Congrats on getting access to the original scan! I was really disappointed with how the original foam build up was handled so I am looking forward to seeing your take on the print up version. This will certainly not be something for everyone, but I am sure a ton of people will love it and it is nice to have a helmet that is already put together properly in regard to alignment as I feel the alignment of the parts is where a lot of people fall short in terms of putting kits together!

Congrats again and looking forward to final build pics!

BTW, you should make mini-helmets for the 12" line of characters. I'd love one for the Sideshow sandtrooper!

Thanks guys.

Well, I can understand why the previous version was done as a carved foam master instead of a print. Not even sure the printing tech was as advanced then as it is now. I certainly reckon it was an insanely lot more expensive. Milling/carving a master is just cheaper and if you are not as interested in the surface details as I am - and several others - but more interested in the overall shape of the piece, then it's not a big loss.

I've tried with vac-formed helmets. They just didn't do it for me in terms of matching the exact look of the original, be it the alterations made to the molds, the forming, the plastic, the way I utterly sucked at putting them together... and with the HDPE... to actually have to paint that after hearing the horror stories... NO RUTTIN' WAY. That's just not for me. Kudos to the talented and patient people who marvel at that.

Anyway, here are some shots for those able to appreciate this piece for what it is and not for what it isn't. This is not the original. This is just a damn fine representation of that particular original with details not seen reproduced before.

It has the highest level of detail I have ever seen on a TK helmet replica.

Really good point. I would actually lean to yes because if the paint was chipped when scanned then scan wouldnt have detailed the tube stripe complete and seeing as which it picked up every other detail. So I go with yes that the chip was after the scan....

I know the vertical angle is completely off, but this is the closest comparison shot I have. I think it really shows off some of the detail that was picked up!
