The reason no one ships internationally

This has been on going for like 4 months. Every one here knows I make these cool vacuum formed phaser rifles.

Well I did a run a while ago and sold them all on evil bay.

A guy in Berlin got three of them. But when he received them he said they were damaged. He sent me this pic.

So well no big deal, I had the package insured encase something like this happened.

So I start with the post office and get the run around for two week.

Then I'm told he was to take the items back to customs and have them do an inspection and an investigation would be done.

So I contact the buyer. Great luck , he still has the box and he still has time to have the items inspected.

Now comes the hold on the payment through pay pal.

No big deal , the post office well come through with the money and I'll send this guy a check and he will release the funds. Everything is going to be cool.

I talk to the guy and he says he does not want to send the items back. He really likes them. He just wants enough money to have them repaired.

A few more weeks of run around with the post office when I run into the local post master. He gives me a new number to call. He say everything will be taken care of as soon as you call this number.

Every time I call the number they tell me their computers are down. Call back later.

Months have gone by now. Pay pal sends me a e-mail saying the buyer will be sending the items back. When I receive said Items contact us so we can give this guy his monet back.

OK that's fine. I'll repair the items and they will be the first thing I ever put in the junk yard.

weeks go by and today I get to the house and there is a package waiting for me, that my mom signed for.

This is whats inside the package.

That is not two damaged phaser rifles.

This guy now has the items and the money.

I hope every one enjoyed this story.

Man I feel for you, I had someone pull something similar to this with me with a rare Japanese Toy. Buyer said the toy was damaged, returned the toy with signature required and what came back was a Korean bootleg.

Ended me shipping anything internationally again through ebay.

Damn, sorry to hear that man. I would imagine, like a few other people, that I rely 99% of the time for anything prop related to be shipped internationally and I can understand why some people are reluctant to do so after seeing this. Hopefully he gets whats coming to him. Nice rifles by the way..if I had money...grrr

That's messed up. As if there aren't enough problems shipping domestically. Sorry to hear you got screwed. Perhaps you could file a paypal dispute? It's upsetting how low some people will go with these fraudulent schemes.

The damage to the rifles didn't look that bad either - The scope could have easily been glued on - the dented grips could have been fixed with some bondo and painted..

The buyer should have just done it on his own - Sorry folks - I know some of you like the "guarantee" that many great sellers here give on this board - but when you recieve a damaged product before asking to get your money back and crying - try and fix it yourself! I keep a few tubes of crazy glue on hand at all times - and many of you sellers know that I have fixed damaged stuff on my own.

you guys are human - not big stores - not manufacturers with factories or insurance policies - buyers here should not be taking advantage of sellers.

Oh a side note - i just watched national treasure over the weekend and that tube looks a lot like the tube that Ms. Chase had the declaration in when they were being chased by the bad guys -and the declaration almost got run over by a truck... (sorry, don't remember the movie too well but I do remember the tube).. maybe you can make a prop out of it.

Again - sorry to hear about your loss. keep us updated.

That is why I make it VERY clear in my auctions that anyone that buys internationally is 100% responsible for all fees, that nothing is guaranteed, that I am not responsible for damage from customs or any other non-USA postal service and everything is sold as is no exception. I've had too many problems with overseas transactions to play PayPal and eBay's game. All I've had to do is show the auction to PayPal and the customs shipping form, which I've had to state sometimes harshly is a legal document, and the funds are released.

I'm sorry you got screwed over. It astounds me how some people can be total scum.

Afraid not man..If i was there I would be well up for a few quid..but that being said there might be no harm in contacting his local police station (if theres anyone here from Berlin I am sure they will chime in) and report it to them and see what they make of it. May even stop him doing it again on someone else

Oh that is awesome I'm totally doing that from now on. This is exactly why I shared my little story. I knew some one here knew how to keep something like this from happening again. Thank you so much.

Do You know any one that lives in Berlin, would like to make a few extra bucks and has a large baseball bat?

Fixed that for ya. ;)

Seriously though, it's not fair that stuff like this happens to good people. I hope this scumbag gets what he deserves.

Oh no nothing like that ! I wouldn't want harm to come to anyone over any silly old tangible item. :angel

Yeah, what he said.
I sold rare model aircraft on eBay with a no return- no matter what policy.
I was always afraid someone would buy model to replace a couple of lost parts, claim my kit was missing them, and try to return it.
Even returned, an incomplete kit isn't worth a fraction of a complete kit.

I also only took money orders and shipped after they cleared.
I sold kits to Turkey, Poland, New Zealand, Sweden and someplace else-can't remember. Those overseas used Western Union MO's which all cleared.
I'm an honest seller and everybody got their stuff; I got my money.
The way I did it put the ball in my court.
I guess there are as many unscrupulous sellers as buyers.
I just know I didn't want to be the person burned.

I assume this guy hasnt responded to any emails since you got his box?

This just happened like two hours ago. I hadn't thought of contacting the guy, what do you even say to something like that ?

I wouldn't even know where to start.

He filled out the shipping and customs forms as if the items were in the package so there has not been a mistake.

He wanted a signature conformation , my items , and my money.

That's what he got.

What would you say to the guy ?

Thanks very much for this heads up/reminder.

As to what to say if you write him, just tell him you want to give him a chance to make good on this situation in case he made a mistake, as the legal consequences have been surprisingly severe for German citizens in your past experience. ;)

What would you say to the guy ?

Doesn't filling out the customs forms for anything other than what is actually in the package amount to mail fraud, especially if you are doing it to steal from someone?
Just curious, did either of you leave feedback? I know that as the seller, there's nothing you can post, but maybe you should contact eBay about him.

what he said ^^^ he filled out a fraudulant customs form... thats gotta be illegal all kinds of ways...

I would start just by saying you didnt recieve what he claimed he was sending... I wouldnt expect a response, but you never know...

Im sorry to hear about the problems that incident caused you. There are morons out there who are out to exploit everything they can for a few $$.

I do have to say that my collection would be VERY bleak if it weren't for international shipping (I'm in Canada). I wish people like that weren't out to make things harder for us honest folk.
