The PEPAKURA question thread - PLEASE READ RULES IN FIRST POST!

how do I figure out if I need to alter the file to fit my large head and, if I do, how do I go about altering the file?
there are several way to go about doing this. one simple way might be to:
1. I think the beasurement 8.5 is the length of your head (front to back)
2. convert to mm - 215.9
3. use the measurement tool to measure the internal distance
4. if you dont know how to do step 3, please search youtube for "the hero tutorials" and review the series
5. do some math 215.9 x (current scale) / (internal measurement) = new scale.
6. print, build, adjust as necessary. it is normal for these things to have to be built 2 or more times. especially when you are starting out.

Anyone wanna give DOT(from SPACEBALLS) a try?
Got a friend at work thats looking to go as DOT for halloween.
Figured Id try to give her a hand.

Hey guys,

I've set out on a journey to build an Iron Man Mark III suit using Dancin_Fool's pep files. Problem is, I'm running a Mac and have no access to Pepakura's app. I'm not able to run bootcamp or any other software to allow Windows to run either. I would highly appreciate it, and give full props in future updates, if someone could help me modify the pep files to my dimensions so it will fit. Any help is much appreciated! PM me if you can help!

hey there everyone, i was wondering if anyone had some pep files for the Gray Fox helmet from the Metal Gear series... I'm really looking forward to work on that. I don't wish to make the whole armor, just the helmet and put it on display

Thanks in advace

Hey faithful RPF brethren. I've done as much research as I can and before I start my first ever pep build, I wanted to make sure I knew what I needed here in Australia since I can't use American brands here (no Home Depot). Would the items below be fine for resining the outside and fibreglass ign the inside? Thanks all

Craft Resin Diggers 500g Casting&embedding - Bunnings Warehouse

Fibreglass Hardener Diggers 15ml Resin Catalyst Firc1506 - Bunnings Warehouse

Fibreglass Strip Cloth 2.5mx100mm Fis10006 - Bunnings Warehouse

Yep, they sound good. We've got Bunnings over here in New Zealand.

But after you've tried them - and found that you love fibreglassing - check online for fibreglass supply companies in your state or elsewhere in Aussie.

I get my supplies from a company in Auckland, and even with the freight added, it is still less than a quarter of the per litre price of buying it in 500gm tins.

No doubt there'll be a company that you can deal with.

Also - drop in to a panel beaters and ask where they get their supplies of car body filler, and also ask about fibreglass supplies. It's almost a certainty that they'll be able to help put you onto someone who can sell you stuff.

Good luck!

Dont use the embedding resin, Bunnings stock Fibreglass resin in a red tin - Its cheaper :)

Also for the cloth, if you live near a Barnes Welcome it is MUCH MUCH MUCH cheaper from there.

I used to use the diggers resin, it does the job well :)

Great idea about the supplier, I thought about buying on ebay but wasnt sure of quality. Very good idea about the panel beaters as well. Thanks mate.

Here is a free version, but not highly detailed (looks to be a ripped model from the HD game). Need a google account to access:

Black Kaos has a higher detailed version for sale:

Hi, I have a file and I wish to separate the legs and the boots (for exemple). How can I do that ?

-Shinon

Ok, i have blender, Google sketchup, 3Ds max. But what is the way for do that ?

-Shinon

In Blender:

1- Open model in Blender, Go into Edit mode.
2- Choose Edge select function, then RMB to select first edge along your separating point. CNTRL+RMB to select the next edges until you have gone all the way along where you want the break to be.
3- Select Mesh>Edges>Edge Split. You have now broken the object into two separate meshes.
4- Press A to deselect all, then go to one side of the break and press L to select that half.
5- Press P to separate, then selection.
6- Each half is its own separate object now. Esc into Object mode, you can now select whichever mesh you want. (say, just the boot)
7- File>export>OBJ and be sure to select selection only from the lower left of the screen before exporting.

You can go back and then select the other half of the mesh (say the shin) and save this the same way. Keep in mind, if you DO NOT check selection only before exporting, it will export the entire model, not just the part you have chosen.

What do you guys use to clean your bondo tray or tools after you've used it?

I have a hard ass time scrapping it all up before it hardens or cleaning off my tools before it hardens.

Let it harden! you can peel it off if it's thoroughly mixed on most surfaces, but using a drip cloth would be the best idea if you are worried about getting things messy ;)

Easy answer, DON'T. Bondo is much easier to clean off in a large goop or pile than if it is smeared thin. Using flexible plastics for spreaders and mixing boards helps a ton too. I like to use the tops of 1 gallon ice cream tubs; Whatever you don't use, just leave it to dry, then flex the top to pop it off. A lot of 1 gallon bondo cans come with a plastic top as well where the hardener gets tucked in, those work in a pinch too.
It's worth buying cheap plastic spreaders and a plastic 1-2" putty knife, as they clean fairly easily too. Just be sure to wipe off one side of your knife or spreader when you're done, or your knife is going to be like Excalibur in stone to get out :D
