The PEPAKURA question thread - PLEASE READ RULES IN FIRST POST!

I am extreemly new to this. And i had one question. When i go to attach the paper flaps together, what do i use to attach them? Glue? Tape?

Re: WHAT Is Pepakura, And How Do I Get Involved???

Pepakura is becoming so popular that these questions are going to be repeated on a regular basis. Do anyone else think that a dedicated pep section be added to the forum just for this?

Probably a good idea. Been digging through this and other forums for the last month or so and still finding new things buried in threads I've read twice. Would be nice to consolidate pep Q&A in a more easily navigated environment.

Speaking of pep Q&A....

Been having some armor scaling issues due to support pieces on the pep files.

Currently have a pic of the mk3 armor and figured out scale factor so that I can measure and multiply to achieve HEIGHT in mm for use in pepakura designer.

Problem: Several of the pieces I'm attempting to scale have these triangular stabilizers on top and bottom of the piece in the .pdo file and it seems that it would skew the scaling.

Is there a way to: 1.remove those support structures in pepakura designer?

2.measure the currently scaled size of the supports so i can discount
them from the scale sizing?

3. some very simple way of dealing with this that I'm simply to thick
to think of at the moment?

Really good idea. Pepakura is getting bigger and bigger each day. Its a fun, reliable sourse for making props, movie and video game alike. And having to search through a plethera of posts all over the site is challenging at times and very difficult to find exactly what yu were looking for. A library or even its own topic bar would be cool to see.

I'm assuming you are using Pepakura designer and not just viewer?

1. Not easily. It would require exporting the model into other software, editing, and then reloading into pepakura.

2 (and 3 lol). 2D MENU>EDIT MODE>MEASURE DISTANCE BETWEEN TWO POINTS
You can use this tool to get more accurate scaling of pieces. It's better to use this tool than the overall scaling results shown in your scaling menu.

Good luck!

Thanks for that!

I'm not sure how I overlooked this utility, its going to make a great many things easier I think.

I use hot glue on the low seeing. I think most everyone users hot glue. Search YouTube for the "hero tutorials". Stealth will teach you virtually everything you need to know.

Hot glue is the easiest way to do it. It can get messy and you can burn yourself but the glue can be reheated to reposition pieces if needed.

Hey thanks, i appreciate the help, i always used tape and it always took a while.... But hot glue seems like it will be easier to work with than the tape...

I did not know that! Thats a very useful piece of info, i always thought that it would just get in the way and it would be way to thick to use but i would be wrong.

I've been using hot glue personally, but I've also heard high praise for Aleene's Original Tacky Glue

Supposedly sticks fairly quickly while still giving a good amount of time to get perfect positioning.
Seen it a Walmart Michael's and I think hobby lobby.

Will post about it later after I get a chance to try it out.

Hi people, I'm new here! This is my first attempt in making a costume so I have a couple of questions about the pepakura software!!!

1. I've downloaded the trial version of pepakura editor but it does not allow me to rotate the object as i can do with the freeware viewer -.-"

2. With both softwares some pepakura files are messed up as shown in this screenshot. How do I solve the problem?

I'll try ;)

And what about the mess with the stealth's pepakura file? I did not scale it o_O

Messed up file looks like one modded for use with EVA foam instead of paper.

Depending on HOW modified it is you might want to DL a different file OR just go to 2D menu and Recalculate parts layout.

Will put them all back on the page.

Short answer: The file sample you showed is set up to make foam templates , not a paper unfold where every piece would be printed, cut out, and built with. With symmetrical parts, the duplicate templates are moved off the print pages so that you don't end up with two identical template pieces to cut out. Instead you trace your left piece, then flip the template to trace the right.

thank you !!!! :) I'm totally new to this world and I was lookin at paper and foam files :)

I guess that after scaling (I'm 165cm tall) it will be time to star building :)
