Re: Mass Effect Fem-Shep Template

Could you not ask someone else who had access to Photoshop to convert the templates to a more user-friendly format? What do you need done? I have Photoshop, if it's just a simple file conversion.

Well you see.... anyone I know with photoshop has it because of the military lol so they can't exactly spend their time messing around with personal stuff... but this website has all the templates for download.... but they are apparently in the photoshop format.... http://www.julianbeek.nl/blog/

What website are you talking about?

Hello all...
First of all thank you so much for your tutorials, they have been extremely helpful in getting me started on my first IM suit. I feel like I have a good grasp over much of the creation and the steps involved.

However...

I'm fairly new to pepakura and foam building, and I feel like i've put in my hours looking for a few answers to some questions I have... and honestly I'm exhausted from searching for answers I can't find anywhere. So please let me know if there is a more appropriate place to ask these here:

1.) In pepakura, there are certain edges, especially around multi-directional dome shaped surfaces, in which there are clearly cuts you are to make in paper/foam in order to make it curve...but how do you know which edges are ultimately supposed to meet up solid vs. having some sort of spacing in there? If you need a pic example I can post one. The problem I'm having is that in the 3D model view there is clearly "air" between joints, so to join the edges is to shrink the surface area of the plane... does this make sense?
2.) is there some sort of "spacer" people make in order to sort of "float" two edges next to each other? for example, on the iron man faceplate, there the "temple" area of the brow meets the side curve of the cheekbone polygon...

Thank you so much in advance anyone who can help. Things are moving right along thanks to everyone here!

In answer to question #1 - the "air between joints" you're seeing in Pepakura's 3D view is merely a software setting, and does not actually impact the printed model. Models will still print and assemble correctly, assuming it's actually modeled correctly in the first place. You can close that visual gap up in the 3D view by going to "3D Menu" --> "View Setup" and changing the value of the "Size of opening (after folded)" slider. That's for Designer, anyway - I haven't used Viewer in years and don't know if that same setting exists there.

For question #2 - I'm trying to visualize what you mean here, but I guess I'm not quite getting it. :) Maybe someone else can jump in and help with that one.

After doing multiple searches for a Fem-Shep Chest plate for Pepakura I came up with nothing... really? This doesn't seem right... does anyone know if it's been done and if not could someone help me? I'm so stupidly new at this that it's confusing still and I still haven't even discovered how to resize the pieces without completely jacking them up lol Hints/Tips are welcomed!

Hey guys, this may seem like ignorant question but I just found out about pepakura and would really like try using it for some storm trooper pieces. However, I have no means of printing the pieces myself so I was wondering if there was some site where you could buy the already printed templates? Thanks, Alex.

seriously, its not that hard to printout a few pages ;)

well you could probably find someone here to print the pages for you if you take care of the shipping and paper cost. I can't (no printer) but I was just throwing that option out there.

Ok asking again... I can't figure out how to resize templates on Pepakura... I found one resize button but it didn't do jack... what am I missing? Also... for a template build.. if it's already unfolded can I just print it out (after resizing of course) or do I need to do something else?

its in pepakura designer 2d menu/scale factor
and then either increase or decrease by 10 % or manually put in the value.

It´s all in this thread. You can use the search feature, or simply skim through the 30 pages here. Look what a quick search brought up: HaloGoddess' "How To Scale" and More Tutorial

hi ya'll. Few quick noob questions, will fibreglass resin dissolve electrical tape? What about duct tape? Does anybody use masking tape to hold their pieces in place while glue dries? I'm using 200gsm paper (in New Zealand so measurements are different) is this a good size? I find my pieces keep becoming warped. Lastly, is it wise to apply glue with a small paintbrush? O.O I have a feeling that failing to do this could be the cause of my warping...

Any tips or help is appreciated.

Was reading through this and he states, "From there, click on "Specify Scale", and input the number. from there, all of the other numbers should snap into proportion"

So if I am measuring the arms of a template and I enter in lets say 9 inches for the arm... it's going to just automatically resize EVERYTHING? Can I not select different parts to re-size it? Because my brain is not understanding how it can do that... I have some long ass legs and that's just not going to work for me

You do know what part of your comment ensured you a ton of pm´s from guys who want to help you, do you? What template are you talking about anyway? Did you already find one that suits your needs? You can also scale the print outs themselves with your printer driver settings.

I'm trying to build a N7 Fem-Shep armor and it's my first time to even try this... my understanding is that the male arms, legs and back are the same but of course the front (which I can NOT find.. and don't know how to make...) is not.. So i'm trying to figure out to scale all of this stuff so I can print out the easy parts and get those started until I can figure out how to make the chest not suck... lol I'm 5'11 so scaling the template is going to be a MUST. Thanks!

There was a posting some guy made about how to rotate the actual image itself in the Pepakura designer but he never had the question asked because he figured it out... How the heck do I rotate the 3D image so I can see where my lil' paper cut out pieces connect... it's hard to put a puzzle together when you can only see one side of the picture...
