The New Spider-Man - I really hope....

Gone but not forgotten.
Peter gets his Webshooters back. It may seem like a small thing, but Pete being able to build those things did alot for his character. His nerdiness made him more equipped. I remember Raimi's reasons for ditching them was because he couldn't see 3M not coming up for something as tough as the webbing was supposed to be - If he'd read some of the earlier issues - Peter tried to sell the webbing formula once to a glue company, but they passed on it because it only lasted a short while. Also, with that logic it seems like NASA or JPL would come up with a hovering glider.

Also, who didn't love it in old issues when Pete would be in a fight with the Green Goblin and "pfft" - out of web fluid.

Okay, now for the costume. I never liked that movie suit. The fact that Peter supposedly put that thing together in his bedroom only adds to it's cumbersome construction. It's not something he could wear realistically under his clothes, nor could he wash it or repair it without a vac-u-form machine. I want something less body mold and more free flowing. No more wet suits.

Mary Jane and Gwen Stacey - someone pease make sure you cast girls who actually look good this time. Mary Jane was supposed to be a drop dead fox who would cause all men to crack their necks when she walked into a room. Dunst is in no way the right choice for MJ.

These a simply a few things I hope they change.

I do agree with the points you make, especially with the costume. How cool would it be to see a cobbled-together suit (not lazy comic convention level bad, mind you) that honored the original design but looked unique and er... amazing... in its own right.

I REALLY liked the way they did the movie spider-suit. In terms of filming purposes I think it looked great. I however, don't think they did a good job explaining how Peter went from the spray-paint detail 'wrestling' suit to the brick pattern, silk screened, foam latex and powder-coated webbed suit that he ended up with. Particularly considering the fact that they DIDN'T give peter any real ingenuity... Having some kind of technical genius (i.e. Being able to make a web solution, being able to build web shooters) really made the suit seem like an impossibility for the Spidey in Raimi's flicks.

They abandoned peters inventiveness in favor of the 'cool factor'.
But I mean hey, the costume could have been a LOT worse!

I do know that it's possible to make a suit like that. In fact, several individuals have been able to do it on their own. Otherwise we wouldn't have the great replicas that we do. But, they've made them at great cost to themselves and the process is very exhaustive.

Otherwise. I hope they pick a good cast of actors. I was NEVER happy with anyone besides Defoe and Franco.
Kristen bell would make an amazing MJ in my opinion :)

I do like the idea of webshooters, but I can also see Rami's argument for organic shooters.

The suit itself, I never had a problem with. It was still true to the comics, but added a little something for the cameras. Of course, I'd be perfectly happy if they go 100% comic route ;)

I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing what they come up with for the suit. A suit more like Minder's up there would be sick!

I want the web shooters back too, just because they're such a huge part of Spidey in the comics (I'm reading Amazing straight through, I'm on #420-something). I think the chief reason for abandoning them in the films, despite Raimi's 3m quote, was the aesthetics of them with the costume. It's either "ignore them" like they do in the comics to keep the forearms and wrists streamlined, have a bulky protrusion under the spandex, or wear them outside the suit a la Nicholas Hammond.

I think I'd disagree with you on most of your points. Now, I love the comics for what they are but in hindsight, it seems to me that if you're gonna have a story about a radioactive spider bite a kid and give him "spider powers" and then to NOT give him "natural" web spinning abilities seems kind of like a ridiculous oversight to me. I totally agree with Raimi's take on that.

Maybe mechanical web shooters could work though... I would want to see him invent the web fluid BEFORE he gets bitten though and maybe not have any idea what it's good for. It just seems too contrived to me that he gets the spider powers first and then decides, "hey, I'm going to invent a super-web-slinging-formula that nobody else on earth could invent."

The bio-shooters in the context of the origin story just make infinitely more sense to me.

On the issue with the costume, even in the comics though, Peter cobbled the costume together but what he wound up with was never drawn as some cobbled together costume (like what Kick-Ass wears for example). It was always drawn as a fancy skin-tight superhero suit. Besides, if he can invent this super-duper web formula, can't he frakkin' make a nice costume too? In the context of the story, I don't really see how you can justify one without the other. Just my two cents of course...

I kind of agree on Dunst... I think she's pretty attractive myself though she's not a bombshell knockout by any means.

I would REALLY like it if they followed the comic line with the death of Gwen Stacy first instead of having Peter hook up with Mary Jane right off the bat.

I fear that the "new" Spider-Man will tank - Sam did have what others lacked: dedication of a fan. He imposed the question, what story would I like to be told on the silver screen.

If you really want to see his self-made costume - then I remind you of the 70's SM...

The web-shooter is still a sucking idea, scientifically spoken. Even if would last only an hour, companys would still be interested and improve it. Organics was versilimitude idea.

Dunst is VERY hot. I'd hit that without a question! :love

Good lord, man.... I think you might be on to something there. Can she act?! I don't think I've ever seen her in anything.

She played Saffron in two episodes of Firefly. Did really well too, as she went from "completely sweet and innocent" to "devious I've been playing you the whole time" but still kind of likeable.

The organic web-shooters make sense except for one thing - spiders don't shoot them from their legs... ;)

Yeah, that would make for an entirely different movie. Not one I'd want to watch, I think, but interesting. :lol

Or, you could combine the two concepts and have Peter refill his mechanical web shooters from his butt before each mission. That solves the problem of inventing the chemical formula AND the inaccuracy of the actual spinner locations. Kinda of the worst of both worlds ;)

I agree that there was some inconsistancy that required a good amount of suspension of disbelief in regards to the logic of him not being able to make webshooters, but being able to make a suit that looks like that.

Costume design is certainly one aspect they'll have the opportunity to return to form on.

I always liked the webshooters as well, myself. I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's something about them that is just intrinsic to Spiderman for me.
