The Mummy Hamunaptra key 3.3

License.jpg

Just so we're clear on how the license works !
Also, looking into a possible .....Actual Bronze print from Shapeways !
It'll take some definite tweaking from the standard model, but on the inside. The outside will still look the same as the 1. Resin print or 2. STL files version.

Can't wait to print it! I'm going to put together a display with some scarabs and the map to hamunaptra

This will be the home of the sales thread for the Hamunaptra Key 3.1

The key's size has been reduced from it's 2017 original so that it is more consistent with the size of the books of Life and the Dead.
The pin for the hinges for the flaps were 3D printed in the original, and sometimes broke under stress. The new pins for the flaps are metal and will not break, and will rotate easier since they are perfect round and low friction. (this should eliminate sticky flaps not opening)
The new 3.0 key will be 3D printed glossy metal colored PLA, and looks very cool even without being painted. The key will be sold as a finished piece, rather than a kit.

Pics will be posted soon, as it's still finishing printing as I sit here at my computer.

I am interested please let me know cost.

I am interested please let me know cost.

This is PRELIMINARY pricing. Still working out the final design, and how many options there will be.

I'm figuring up the cost on bronze from Shapeways, and I ordered one of the flaps from them in Bronze. When I receive that, it'll tell me if the whole key is doable in bronze or not. The flaps could be too heavy for the design I'm using. After receiving the flap, I can determine if it can be printed in bronze and get a price estimate in bronze for the whole key.

(1) STL files and 10 springs (only eight are necessary) should be $50.
(2) Kit printed in resin with 10 springs. Price should be $150.
(3) Possibly a second type of kit in FDM printed Metallic looking PLA. If it ends up being offered, also $150.
(4) Finished resin, painted, and assembled will be $180.
(5) Possible Bronze Key ($ to be determined)

There will be, likely, a one month signup period which will only start after I've finished my design and heard back from Shapeways, etc. This is because this springs are expensive and need to be ordered ahead of time, and I also need to know how much resin to buy, and so on. Then I order supplies and fulfill orders. Because this doesn't work without springs, I'll still need to go through the interest list phase to determine how many springs to order. So, to be clear, the design is almost done, but we could still be talking January before any orders actually start getting filled.

I will have a resin printed key (shown raw print) and also paint it afterwards and will post picks here, soon.

Put me on the list for the files and springs.
Are the springs custom or off the shelf?

The last time I bought some, they were something crazy like 8 dollars a PIECE if you buy in low quantity. But cheap if you're buying a couple hundred. That's why I have to know how many to buy first. The price break can be very drastic if you meet the minimum quantity for discount.

key compare pic.jpg

Still working on the bottom and finishing up some details, but here is the top half compared to the Hero Prop Key.
What I see when posting this compare pic, is the cylinder part of the flaps might need to be a bit shorter, and extend the hinges to take up the space. My engravings may also need a bit of adjusting. Mine extend over the entire face, and they should be less wide. That's something that's been in the design since the beggining and will just now get fixed. :) Overall, a few tweaks and it'll be done.

Suggestions welcome. I might try and tighten up the space between flaps. I was worried that with the difference in 3D printers, the variance of some peoples printers in size, might make the space between flaps too tight, and they might bind instead of open.

if list is still ongoing I would like to be added for 4, please.

If 5 happens though, I’d prefer the bronze option.

This is really coming together. Those pics of the actual Hero prop key were just what I needed. I am looking at possibly some kind of DIY electroplating instead of painted for those in option 4. Might add just a bit to cost, but plated should look much better than just a paint.

Okay. Just a bit of internal stuff to work out, and then this is a done deal. I should (with life's permission) print a copy and assemble it in this coming week to make sure everything works well.
