The Midnight Show

Is it just me, or has Hollywood effectively ruined the midnight show, at least as far as new releases go? When a new movie came out, and you wanted to be the first to see it, you saw the midnight show. Depending on the film or franchise, it was a big party, costumes and everything. Now that they've started showing films as early as 7pm on the previous day it's like... Meh. What's the point? The early shows just don't have the same, forgive me for saying this, "magic", and the midnight show is no longer technically the first. How many of you would prefer they go back to the traditional midnight show premiere and ditch all the early shows? Or am I alone on this one?

I'm with you... it's been done to pad the "weekend/opening" numbers for said film -- just like everything else, greedy suits have found a way to ruin it.

I saw the original Independence Day at midnight and there weren't costumes or a party. Now I feel screwed!

The costumes and frickin "cosplayers" ruined the midnight shows for me. They used to be cool. Before they became a spectacle. Last one I went to left me so agitated by the time the movie started that I couldn't have enjoyed it if I tried. Like all things, they jumped the shark.
