The Mask Jim Carrey Costume

Found this strange mask down by the creek, might put it on later and see what happens...:) Damn that pic came out great!

The Mask Costume Jim Carrey Smmmmmooookin!!

It has always been my dream to be The Mask character, and for the last 30 years now I have been making all my dream characters a reality, mostly horror. But also a lot of characters well that are non-horror such as this one! I started by making the mask out of silicone and then made the yellow coat and pants out of bright yellow fabric. I then added some black dress shoes, spats, in which I made adjustable, and then glued in polka-dot material to match the suspenders and tie. I then made a giant hammer out of a popcorn barrel, 2 pie pans, and some foam to add embellishments. I then added a 48 inch 3/4 inch dowel. I painted it white, and paint the can yellow with white trim to match the costume. I left the ends look like metal to look more authentic and realistic. I then played the character at the parades and events that I go to from Mid Oct until Halloween and it was a blast! Everyone loved it and took first place in all those events, and "best costume" and "funniest costume". People loved it and I loved playing the character! Re: The Mask Costume Life-sized Jim Carrey

I have been planning on making this for a LONG time as well and finally decided to tackle it. Is not easy or cheap but should be well worth it in the end!!

Re: The Mask Costume Life-sized Jim Carrey

The actuul suit and hat is about $1200 but was out of my budget so I am making them and modifying an existing costume so far so good! Still wasn't cheap after the accessories I made and props, and masks but will have more on that later. ;)

Re: The Mask Costume Life-sized Jim Carrey

i want to make the cuban pete costume one day, but its far in the future, unfortunately ;) good luck anyway!

Re: The Mask Costume Life-sized Jim Carrey

Shrek Donkey teeth. These were HUGE in my mouth and did not fit at all so I am cutting backs out and molding them with plastic thermal beads. Also cut them down to 4 each, and so far working great! Painting them more white now. These are just an added bonus that I was not sure would work or not but seems to be turning out great!

Polka-Dot material I am putting in.

Re: The Mask Costume Life-sized Jim Carrey

I have a few options, and awesome silicone and a few latex ones. But I am still waiting on them to get done. The silicone looks awesome and is great for actual wearing, the lat ones lok good for display and may work for wearing but also will try the silicone for the life-sized and see how it is.

Re: The Mask Costume Life-sized Jim Carrey

Love it.

Want to do this as well but I am going to wait till (a) my sculpting skills are good enough for the mask and (b) there is actually some chance I can afford to get the suit and hat made.

Can not wait to see this.

Re: The Mask Costume Life-sized Jim Carrey

Hat and tie. I wanted the official tie but ran over the budget for it since the silicone mask was not cheap. Official suit and hat would have been cool too but way too expensive at almost $1200 for just one Halloween. But it is a lot more fun to make it anyway! Hopefully this hat that came with the coat works as I have a a big head, but may not wear a hat a lot of the time anyway to show off the mask. The official hat is $750 lol. More to come!!

Re: The Mask Costume Life-sized Jim Carrey

Shattered FX Jim Jam with accurate paint requested by me. Also did a life-sized test using the teeth I modified and painted, I love them! Teeth just set in and works good without tape. Made them really white to be seen at night and have that cartoon look. They can be moved some but not too much as I had to cut them down to fit my mouth easier. Silicone fits me better than the mannequin, I got a big head so hat does not fit well so may not use it. More pics to come!

Re: The Mask Costume Life-sized Jim Carrey

That is amazing. I was going to do the mask a few years back but my boyfriend finds it creepy.

Re: The Mask Costume Life-sized Jim Carrey

im not so sure about that mask. i just dont see the resemblence. saggy eyes. it might just be me or the stand its on :D

still following :D

Re: The Mask Costume Life-sized Jim Carrey

It is not made to be a 100% replica but there is definitely a resemblance. The head shape, nose, and over-exaggerated chin etc. Silicone sags on a mannequin as it does not stick to it and the head is tiny. My big head fills it all out. The latex versions are not that much better accuracy wise and huge and with no back. This is the best overall option for wearing as it comforms tightly and there is a lot going on with the entire costume and not just a mask on a mannequin with flash up close. So in the scheme of it all it will be just fine. I just wanted to show the mask itself up close. But overall it is the best one out there for the character, not 100% accurate but a fun costume for Halloween. I could also do the make-up but it is too time consuming and I have too many events to do that. So this will work great to save a lot of time. I will also be playing the character and doing a lot of stuff he does.

Re: The Mask Costume Life-sized Jim Carrey

yeah, recognizeable at any rate :D i was just really thrown off by the sagged eyes.

i would love to see pics of it worn!

Re: The Mask Costume Life-sized Jim Carrey

The eyes were also cut an angle as this also doubles as another mask I think but was sculpted with this in mind. But my bigger head holds it up more and I will have a lot of pics in costume. In the large scheme of it all you won't be as focused on small details. Mask makers make masks slightly different to avoid being sued, so it was not made to be an exact replica but works well and looks fantastic in person! Will have more pics of the costume once it is done and the accessories I am making.

Re: 2012 Halloween Costume Contest Entry The Mask Jim Carrey

OK added the spats and suspenders and is now complete! Was hard taking those pics myself and posing but getting used to it after all these years. I also got a yellow hat and feather, but does not fit well being I have a large head and the silicone mask is thicker as well. So will probably not use it. I like seeing the mask anyway! Will have a life-sized as well to show the clothes better and colors later on. Will be a lot fin playing this character! Sukcs that mostly I will be doing it at night but that bright yellow and green should stand out! I made the huge hammer custom colors to match the costume, was my first one and came out cool! I hope to do some videos as well and my reenactments if I get time.
