'The Mask' Ideas...

goldenarmor is owned by a banned member and is known for constantly stealing money.

it really wouldn't be simple to do off of Jim Carrey's cast... unless you have both this cast AND the EXACT lifecast of Jim Carrey that was used to make it you can't core the mold... YOU NEED TO CORE THE MOLD for a silicone mask... The best thing to do is a resculpt...

How much interest would there be in these?

Well, seeing as how GoldenArmor may be a bust (which is a REAL shame), I think I may have come up with a decent alternative, and possibly cheaper as well.
Take this: The Haunted Studios Collection
Then apply clay atop it to match how the final one looked with all the prosthetics, then do a silicone cast.

I may attempt one of these, been looking for something to experiment with in silicone...

There'd have to be a decent amount of interest and I'd have to figure out the back of the neck... In the movie they used a two piece prosthetic and the back piece extended past where the "mask" would have ended and blended into his skin tone to cover his hairline in the back... Don't know how to make this without having people's hair peekin' out like some sort of mullet...

I was thinking doing the mask possibly like the guys at Composite Effects, where the bottom of the mask goes down to the shoulders and just above the sternum.

That would be interesting. I could do it that way. Only thing is it'd destroy the skinny neck that the character's got... maybe make the head SLIGHTLY larger and play with proportions and make a good compromise... I'll start playing with this end of Jan. Could be fun. I love this character!

And that lifecast wouldn't work as a core. In order to core a mold taken off of the golden armor thing (which I'm not suggesting) you would need the EXACT SAME LIFECAST OF JIM THAT THE APPLIANCE WAS SCULPTED ON...

Hope you come up with something, i would love to see this done!!
It will be the best silicone Mask ever created! :D

I know that I can start this come Feb. but I'm getting a little antsy over it and MAY start it sooner... Trying to get a usable core/armature...

I can't wait!! I have no idea how to sculpt or silicone so I'm excited to see what you guys can come up with!!!
(I would totally B.S. my way through it some how if I was to do it myself :p)

GOOD LUCK!!!! :D

So I've got the MASK playing at work and I've watched the special features and now I'm really lookin' forward to tryin' this. It'll be slow going but started soon.

Looking forward to seeing your progress. It might get my behind movin' on starting a few projects of my own.

Hah, it's gonna be AWHILE before I need to test anything... I have to start by making my armature SOMETIME this week...

My biggest worry is the nose and mouth... In the actual piece there was no prosthetic there and Jim's already got a thin long nose... Trying to make that in a mask is gonna be tough while also leaving enough rubber to not tear easily...

a foam latex mask would be awesome. there are other foam masks out that i've tried to get to paint in the same color as the mask but the problem has always been the ears.

a blank head with no ears painted in the green mask color would look good as well. you could always airbrush it to accentuate the crazy contours from the film style. I have just never found a decent mask with no ears to use as a base. would love to see what everyone else comes up with.

I can do either or... what would be more popular, silicone or foam rubber? Foam would ultimately be cheaper but it's got a lower tear strength... I don't think foam would be good to use if the whole neck is included...

This will have to be figured out before the core is even made as it will determine the proper material...

Definetly silicone!!

There are loads of latex masks out there, by making a silicone mask you will be doing something very unique and im sure it will be extremely popular.

No one has made a silicone 'mask' mask before! Cant wait to see it started! Have you begun the armature yet?

I have not... I've got another project in the beginning stages and haven't checked on the fiberglass supply in the shop yet...

I've got to go with silicone as well though. I thought foam would be a poor choice and proved this with our foam runner today. This is going to take awhile to start and even longer to finish and it's going to be my first silicone mask so it'll be a learning experience as well. When I finally do end up having something to show I'll start a new thread.

Cool, i am really interested in this project, the most interested i've been in anything on the board so please be sure to keep us informed! :D

Yours sincerly,
the biggest MASK fan in the universe ;)

thats awesome. Silicone would be great to use. This project sounds like fun. im gonna try and locate a foam or silicone latex mask and modify it as best as I can. I love the mask and your future build sounds like a fun project!
