So, I was thinking of doing 'The Mask' in his yellow suit for my dad. Not to sure how to go about doing this and didn't see anyone doing/done it yet so... help?

This will be for next Halloween so we have time,

Thanks,

I did 'The Mask' prosthetics for a friend a couple years ago. It's a fun project but it takes some planning and cost a little bit just for the mask itself... I only wish I hadn't done it as my FIRST prosthetic project, could do such a better job of it now...

I've been wanting to do this for a very long time! Haven't had the time or ability tho. Its definitely a project I'll be keeping on my shelf for the future tho. I'll keep an eye on this thread for sure.

So what I'll need (and I know my Dad won't want to spend a lot of money) is a Yellow Zoot Suit, teeth, and the mask...maybe a gold chain pocket watch.

i did this a few years ago as well. I bought the used halloween costume when the movie came out and just had it tailored to fit me better and made the wide brim hat and added the long feather. the hardest part was the mask itself.

I went to a halloween fx guy near me and spent 3 hours in his chair getting done with bald cap and paint. came out really well, the only issue is it doesn't last long.

I did a mask costume years ago, still own the suit, and found a rather interesting find for a more updated version I plan to do.
I figure since prosthetics take time to apply why not just make a full face silicone mask? But however would I get the right face shape...
BEHOLD! DreamScheme Studios - The MASK

An actual cast of Jim Carrey in the prostetics.
Only downside is, it's a bit pricey, $139.95 plus shipping for the raw cast.
Though, once I get the money together I'm going to be buying it and selling silicone masks of it for about $80 a pop.

If you do make the silicone Masks you would be an absolute legend!!
I am one of if not the BIGGEST Mask fan on Earth and have been wandering why no one has made a silicone Mask Mask before...

It would be an amazing piece!!

Please do it :D

If you try to make a silicone mask out of that... What would you use as a core? It'd be tough to reverse engineer but it's a cool idea. I'd love to help out.

I'm not sure that recasting their product would go over too well. Might be a better idea to just use one as a sculpting reference.

Yeah... I was kinda thinking that the actual bust would be too good to be true... though I think we I've got some disposable income I might as well try.

Yeah i'd be careful when buying from that guy, heard nothing but bad things.

Hopefully, someone here knows the whereabouts of a 'MASK' bust?? I reaaalllyyy want a silicone Mask to be made and how better to do it than from Jim Carreys Mask face itself?

:)

it really wouldn't be simple to do off of Jim Carrey's cast... unless you have both this cast AND the EXACT lifecast of Jim Carrey that was used to make it you can't core the mold... YOU NEED TO CORE THE MOLD for a silicone mask... The best thing to do is a resculpt...

How much interest would there be in these?

I may attempt one of these, been looking for something to experiment with in silicone...

There'd have to be a decent amount of interest and I'd have to figure out the back of the neck... In the movie they used a two piece prosthetic and the back piece extended past where the "mask" would have ended and blended into his skin tone to cover his hairline in the back... Don't know how to make this without having people's hair peekin' out like some sort of mullet...

I too would rather do appliances or silicone mask...but for an original $40 investment, this is what I did the past couple years:

The mask is the officially licensed one that came out around the time of the movie.
I want a back-up mask really bad...can't believe this one has not plastisized or whatever they call it.
The way the mask is formed, it fits my head really snug.
It never makes my skin burn, and the mouth is shaped in such a way,
that I can articulate the mouth when i talk..or get those wide open laugh shots. I usually drink thru a straw while out so I don't break character.
On the rear of the neck, it is embedded with:
1994 New Line Productions Inc
Cinema Secrets

The zoot suit was also packaged with the licensed mask.
The pimp hat, I had to get.
Generic white tuxedo shoes.

For the Carnie version, we made the vest.
Bought the straw hat, cane, and arm garters.
Black slacks.
