The Mandalorian - R5-D4’s holoprojector

So, I was slightly disappointed to only get a brief glimpse of the holoprojector as it’s about to extend from R5’s pie panel, before it’s blurred out of focus.

Still, I managed to create something in AutoCAD Inventor, that I’m happy with (for now lol) that could resemble the projector.

This was the second design, tho it may need to be made a bit shorter still to have clearance room for the pie hole.

And here’s the 3D print.

Sectioned in half to save time and material. It is hollow, the intention is to light it up lol.

I’m printing version 3 now. Slight end design change (and shorter) and also as a left & right side version.

Will also be creating an arm to support it as a separate model, then if it’s useful for anyone, it’s available.
I’ll post these up on my Thingiverse page, probably version 3 once it’s printed.

I can’t quite find a perfect match but it looks a lot like some type of quick connect fitting to me.

Was going to spray up version 3, after I’d glued and cleaned it up. But decided to test paint the version 2.

Filler primer, Matt black as an undercoat, then metallic silver. Will mask off tomorrow to apply blue.

Yesterday I masked off the silver ready to spray up with blue.

It’s been a while since I’ve used this silver, and I wasn’t happy with how it was looking applying the blue over it caused the silver to come off when I wiped it.

So resprayed the blue over the black & this time it stuck. Removing the old masking tape, took off some of the silver paint, but I’d weather it anyway and this just adds to the effect. Lastly I applied a clear coat.

Update time:
I added the ‘support arm’ to the holoprojector (additional updates) and half sectioned it for printing. Gotta say this Tevo printer is better than I could of hoped for lol.
Print is at 0.1 layer height.

And after cleaning up.

Correct size Cabochons arrived and on fitting, the recess needed opening up. This made me go and tinker with the design again lol.

This new design comes in three parts, the new third part being the front lens holder. This prints better round and avoids the lines less.

Next up was printing these new parts and the start of painting them.

Next is another small tweak to attain better fitting of the front lens holder.
