With me, I have kind of an odd start to this series.
Back when Zelda came out, I thought it was going t o be one of those Final Fantasy type games, where you didn't have full control over your actions. Press B to jumpy three times. Press A to and so and so. like those newer DS Mario games that came out. So, I was against playing this from the start.
yet, somehow I got ahold of it, and once I actually got around to playing it, thus began my love afair with the zelda series.
Zelda games are more than just games to me, they are an immersive experience. Especially the later games where you get to explore the world. you don't just play link, you become link, as you experience his world and all the fun, and or annoying characters you encounter. it's more like an interactive movie than a game.
My all time favorite will be the first one, because it's the only one simple enough that you can pick up and replay any time you want.
Any game past part one, and it's far too complicated to remember all the details needed for casual play.
When you get into the Nintendo 64 games, I find it quite impossible to play without a guide telling you where to go, and what to do.
the odd thing about playing this way, is that you'd think it would ruin the experience, but it somehow doesn't. you may be spoiled with being told what to do, but reading it, and experiencing the narrative as it happens are two different things, and you get even more enjoyment out of it without wasting time chopping grass, or riding your horse trying to figure out where to go.
Many a night I spent waiting for daylight to come as the real time world went on around me ;o)..
these games are a big part of my child hood.
Having just seen the latest trailer for the newest one though... it didn't feel like a zelda game to me just yet.
something is missing, but i'm not sure what. same goes for skyward sword. the only zelda game i still havn't beaten yet, or even really felt the need to start. it would be very hard to top twighlight princess for me as I Remember that being quite fun.
do you think the zelda series has reached it's narrative limit, or is there more?
