The Last of Us HBO Joel Thread

Has anyone gotten the jacket and removed the wax? I see it’s pretty expensive so don’t know how many have tried this themselves.

Honestly, do as you wish, but I wouldn’t recommend attempting this. I don’t believe there’s much harm to removing the wax, but you’re kind of damaging a well made jacket - an expensive one at that.

The wax naturally breaks down over time and you have to rewax.

Curious, do you plan on doing any weathering techniques?

I wanted it to look more like the show jacket. I collect autographs and I know Pedro Pascal has done signings before so I was hoping that if he did one again I’d get the jacket signed.

Do you think if I don’t remove the wax then there’d be an issue with getting it signed? I don’t plan on wearing the jacket honestly. I would get it signed with a paint pen. Whether that be with the wax or if I attempt to take the wax off.

So Tin Cloth is essentially just waxed canvas. There even might be a layer of extra oil layer for more protection, but essentially it's just wax over the canvas.

If you strip it off by putting the jacket in boiling water, since it is covering the entire jacket.
You can also do this: link.

Once it's striped, shouldn't be too hard to mark it up. Think of marking up a pair of converse lol. BUT, I'm not too sure of what kind of marker you should use to preserve the signature into the canvas. Spot try it on the jacket once you strip.

Btw guys, just going to put this out there as a safety tip:
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD: IF YOU ATTEMPT TO DO THE "BROKEN CRYSTAL LOOK" FOR THE WATCH GLASS, PLEASE, PLEASE BE CAREFUL. BROKEN CRYSTAL IS VERY SHARP. YOU CAN POTENTIALLY CUT YOURSELF VERY BADLY. CRYSTAL ALSO SHARDS WHEN BROKEN, SO YOU WILL GET GLASS IN YOUR FINGERS - IT’S HORRIBLE.

*I also suggest parting out a few replacement glass crystals. I can’t find replacements yet for the Timex Weekender, but I’ll keep you posted.

I've sliced my finger DEEP before on broken watch crystal glass, and can't recommend it - nor the hydrogen peroxide burn/potential stitches.

If you do the breaking effect, you’ll have to damage the crystal when it’s on the watch, which could potentially damage your watch hands/dial. So just be warned.

There are also many watch repair kits on Amazon that you can buy to take apart the watch. I own this one right here, and it works pretty well (note the hand removal tool!).

There are a few guys on here that have experimented with printing a clear Vinyl sticker that has the damage already on it, which honestly, is a smart idea.

Let me know if you guys have any questions.
I found this video to be extremely helpful, this works on both the 38mm and 40mm Weekenders. The entire assembly comes out very easily once the stem is removed, then you're in the clear. I can post pictures tomorrow.

I got the AL55, which is actually a better movement for the 38mm, because it’s a 3 hand movement.

Totally overlooked that the Miyota 2025 is a 2 hand one.

I’m really hoping someone out there has the watch dial vinyl print for use. I’ll buy a sheet of 38mm if anyone out there has it!

Same! If someone does a run they could probably pay for their watch build

If anyone is looking for a substitute to the elusive Crossley t-shirt in Episode 1, there’s this blue tshirt I’ve been buying for years at Buck Mason that I love (it’s my favorite shirt - I have 5 of them ), check it out:

Sizing is pretty normal as well.

Just found eikenshop.com regarding backpacks, they seem to have a wide variety of vintage canvas backpacks.
Some of them remind me a lot of some I've seen on amazon by shady brands however.

Btw, have you guys determined if Pedro wears the tall version of flint and tinder jacket or the classic version?

How would I go about removing the wax on the Huckberry jacket? I’ve never distressed anything but thinking of giving it a try with this one. Anyone have any tips?

Also what size do you guys think Pedro is wearing?

Based of this photo, I would say he went a size larger than he normally would.
Basing this on the long arms and where his shoulder ends. Pedro is a pretty fit guy so I think he would normally wear size M but this looks like size L maybe.

And remember too, they use different sizes for different shots/sequences as well. It wouldn't be a blanket size for everything.

That's more or less how my true to size jacket looks on me, and I just wore it over the River Island shirt the other day. I thought that particular shirt was going to show much more if I wore it untucked but it was fine actually. Also, people should keep in mind that this kind of jacket adapts to your shape the more you wear it, it's one of the benefits of the wax, so it's probably a good idea to keep it in place. If they hadn't removed it for the show, or if Pedro Pascal was just wearing a jacket he owns, chances are the sleeves wouldn't look as long as in that photograph. They might have creased more and fit his arms better.

This is where I'm at (forgive the pixels) Besides the color difference, I'm doubting myself. The hour hand looks to be too short, the Lum groove looks too long on the minute hand. Subdial hand obviously isn't big enough, second hand is ok. Of course camera proportions come into play.

How's your watch journey going? My hands just came in the mail, along with the movements. Just waiting for the Timex Weekender 38mm.

Also, do you have the link where you sourced those hands? They're really spot on, despite the sizing issues.

Update on my current Joel Watch replica I have all the pieces except the hands, I had the watch face designed based off of the original replica of the watch that was released a while back so that way it was as close as possible! Will be posting my attempt at making an artificial cracked design for it that didn’t turn out as good as I hoped
Do you have these print outs for a 38mm?/care to share the file?

I'm getting my file of the face printed at 34mm to fit the 40mm (something bothers me about the 38mm, maybe it's the camera skew). You'll need 32mm for the 38.

Also here's my file. "I swore an oath" of no gatekeeping, haha. It was hilarious realizing the 1s in 11, 12 and 1 are actually capital I's in that font. I directly based this off the MSTR watch from a few years back.

It might need a slight trim, I'm not confident in the edge.
