The Last of Us HBO Joel Thread

That’s actually what I did! The problem was it didn’t show up really well because of the color so I will have mess around with it but I will be posting some pictures of the test cracked stickers I made
Like a clear full face sticker with the graphic of the crack? Or like just the crack

I FOUND THE HANDS! Working on a master list now and waiting for them to arrive in the mail. Hoping they fit, I'd love to keep using it day to day. But if not, it'll be accurately broken, haha. Also didn't end up liking the face from the Etsy seller, made my own in photoshop, pricing out having it printed as a matte vinyl sticker. I WILL UPDATE SOON, this has been on my brain non-stop. Are you looking at the Timex Weekender with that sub dial? If we can source someone who can mass make that dial, and get it swapped out, with your hands that would be mint!

No, I nabbed the blue dial 40mm. I'm fairly confident they didn't have a working subdial for the show. Both times it's working, in the Christmas flashback and his birthday, it's in the down position on 30. The other problem with that model is it doesn't have a regular second hand, and it has a line around the bezel. I'll have links to everything as soon as everything comes in. If I can get a good deal on printing the face, I'd like to do atleast 20.

Ah yah, I just realized that it doesn’t have a normal second hand, but just that sub dial second.

If you think about it, that sub second dial actually makes no sense. It isn’t a Chronograph, and it already has a second hand. So what’s the purpose of the sub dial?

loraximus907 we’re sure it’s a Timex Weekender though huh. Surprising Andrew can’t provide a parts list lol I mean, I get the NDA, but…..

Update on my current Joel Watch replica I have all the pieces except the hands, I had the watch face designed based off of the original replica of the watch that was released a while back so that way it was as close as possible! Will be posting my attempt at making an artificial cracked design for it that didn’t turn out as good as I hoped

I tried to make the cracks into a printable sticker but it didn’t turn out right because as you can see from one of the pictures it is almost completely invisible I may try printing it darker but I am not sure and how I got this design was from a video that was posted online and has a great up close picture of Joel’s watch and almost seems like has a different set of hands. But if anyone has any suggestions on a way to improve on the sticker I would love suggestions!

That’s the best reference photo we’re going to get from the show. Wow! Is that the actual watch from the show??

Hmm, I’d say, you see how the watch face seems clearer through that crack? Like the black is more pronounced? I’d thicken up the lines near the larger crack holes, add a little whiteish at those areas to give it some depth to the crystal, and then also give everything except the holes of the cracks a little bit of a haze, like you would with matte finish, so the area of the hole is more pronounced - but obviously try to do that from your print.

TLDR: Make your crack lines white (paint in some grey too), thicken them up near the holes. Everywhere except holes, give it a little grain in the print so that the holes (dark black areas) are more pronounced.

Thanks I will try and mess around with it and see if I can get something to work if not the design for the stick is a good reference for an actual crack pattern!

So the sub dial’s purpose is just to show seconds, this is how pocket watches are and that design carried over to some dress watches even today. Doesn’t need a chronograph pusher to activate, just a showy way of having seconds on the watch face.

Also if you are talking about this photo it is one of the watches from the show just to clarify :)

I’d say you might be better off making the cracked sticker out of a slightly more opaque sticker, cutting out the holes, and using a blade to score the actual lines to give it texture.

Or use a hammer and nail.

AH! You read my mind. I made one too, what did you print on?

What was your final measurement? 34mm is what I got.

I'm starting to worry that the stunt watch/broken watch has different hands than the birthday watch.
I completely agree. The birthday hands are definitely different than the broken. The broken is thicker. Maybe they thought that with all the cracks blocking the face the thinner hands wouldn’t be visible.

I like the look of the birthday hands, I'll stick with those. It just has that little bit of definition.
