Thanx! I started with the mouth piece, working-out the correct size & shapes.
In the early stage of fabrication, I used an X girl-friends' dental casting as a jig (in pic above) because no matter how much I love working with resin & primer, I never developed a taste for them. Next on the Work Bench - the Breather's Gills...
Here you can see the underside of the mouth piece & my 1st attempt at one of the Gills.
The 1st Hole pattern was a found item (paper) but the pattern was wrong so I opted to hand drill the correct pattern. Much slower but much Improved...
Drilling those holes by hand would make me go cross-eyed! Did you create a template or are you just that patient? :lol Looking forward to the final build.
I mark with a pencil a row/section of where to drill & when paint is drying on some other project I drill a row of 14 holes. One person's patience is another person's multi-tasking.
To me, the filters always looked like sprinkler filters, from lawn bubblers, or maybe the larger Rain-Bird types. But I am in the plumbing business, so I see that kind of thing everywhere.
Where did you hear it was a found part??? Just asking - I had heard (from a pretty reliable source) that it was Made of discontinued K&S Brass (perforated) sheet.
I just assume it was. It looks like it's rolled like a type of filter, not necessarily made from scratch. Of course if K&S did make perforated sheet it would be simple to get that look.
SVS: I assumed as well & the story of it being made seemed a bit much.
tat: OMG! I think I recall the same such Curling-box. The top opened 2 ways - longways /front & back, like some large tool boxes do. SVS: Maybe was a found item. I always keep a closed door open (just a little).
The A-99 Gill part that I made is 15/16ths of an inch long by 19/32 round.
For my project I'm going to use the part I made for now & I will keep an eye open for the suspect curling box screens whenever I surf the thrift shops for junk partz.
