The History Of Fan Made 3po Helmets

I wanted to post a thread to discuss the history of 3po fan made helmets out there and discuss which have the closest lineage to the real thing.

Several years back, a member here offered castings (i think 5 or so) from the UK taken from a screen used helmet.

Vos was the main contact. I'm not sure of the others who received one but I know I got 2 of them.

Can anyone with more detailed info post here on what these were and how the other recasts came to be (non-disney related).

Did zorg obtain one of the original 5 or was his a recast of someone else's. I thought I remembered Goldenrod making casts available not too long after we received the original 5.

Chris, Neil, I know you guys have some info to offer.

Gino,

IIRC Zorg bought Vos's helmet

The Disney cast was a really poor quality sculpt based on their "walk around" suit, which Goldenarmour used as the basis for his cast. Later I think he recast one of Zorg's

Hope this helps

Cheers

Thanks Jez.
It appears that there was a small run of 5 from the original casting of which I received 2 of them. I won't name the other 3 people unless they want to speak up themselves.
Later, the original casting was sold to zorg which he cleaned up and made casts available from that.
So I suppose that the castings zorg made available are of the same generation of helmet that I have, just that his was cleaned up before casting and the ones I received were untouched/uncleaned up.

Sounds about right. I got one of those 5 as well. I provided the resin neckbolts for those 5, based on a damaged original neckbolt I had, once upon a time.

I was kind of wondering about that too- a little over a year ago, it seemed like 3PO heads started popping up like mushrooms all at once from at least 3-4 different people.

You also forgot the mystery helmet that was supposedly cast off an original ANH suit. That is the one I have - it is a bit more rare than the Zorg head.

So is anyone making any good 3PO helmets/heads?

I don't know if these are still being made but I got two Dishman heads last year (one for a friend and one for me). These are great one piece heads for displaying. Very well done roto casts, clean, smooth, and no bubbles or pits in the finish. From what I have read in the past, it appears these were cast from Zorg's head. The heads came with the neck disks, aluminum antennae, and eye grills with lenses and brass tubes. I am very pleased with them.

What are the Zorgs made out of?
Are all the available heads made of resin or are there fiberglass options?

Yes, WE did...

Our mask for our C3PO is cast of an original that dates back to the late seventies. We got it from the original chromers back in UK.
The current owner now, is the son of the person who chromed the originals. His father let the bussiness go to his son.

Its was still shiny but the goldish tone had faded.

The history is that they testchromed variouse parts and that was one of the heads. It was laying openly on a shelf, dusty..

You're not talking about Elstree Paul are you?

That Elstree C3PO head that was discussed in reasonable depth on this forum was dubious to say the least.

I am not saying it wasn't a decent C3PO head but it clearly wasn't what they claimed it was.

Just another Elstree faux pas :rolleyes

I have 2 of the dishman 3p0 resin heads if anyone is interested - I am going to put them up for sale.

I will also have several ANH 3p0 heads (that were molded off an original suit) available soon. They will come chromed, gold plated, or unfinished.
