The Hero Moment

Even though the movie got dragged over the coals (rightfully so given the horrific casting of Kate Bosworth as Anorexic Lois Lane and the rehashing of Lex Luthor's plan from the first movie), Superman Returns has some really awesome hero moments.

My personal favorite was his official reentry into the public eye:

Of course, this is helped a lot by John Ottman's absolutely brilliant score which takes all the traditional Superman leitmotifs established by Williams and incorporates them beautifully into a new score.

Yep. I understood the non acceptance of Returns, but it did have some great moments with modern effects.

Flying above the clouds to recover, the score rises as he regenerates in the sun, and then the clouds cracking open like the hand of God has parted them as he comes hurtling down to earth etc.

Also has a very well done "hero landing" on the island, with the ground cracking.

The plane making it after plummeting so far, bursting out of the mist.

Lifting the whole ship out of the water at the last minute, that was great.

Its not in that short version, but this is a moment that I think needs to be in the DCEU at some point - not the specific moment, but that feeling. Is when the crowd cheers because, forgetting everything else, Superman just saved a plane full of people in spectacular fashion. Whilst they have had something just as powerful (in my mind) in the DCEU so far ("if you seek his monument, look around you" is just beautiful) I would also love to see some more "crowd pleasing" moments come along too. Have no doubt we'll get that in future films.

Kung Fu Panda 3 is my next one, just need to get around to getting a clip.

That is a great sequence. Although the film wasn't that good I felt Routh got a raw deal on that, he was/still would be a much better Superman than Cavill will ever manage.

Jurassic World had not one, but TWO good hero moments in the final battle with the Indominus.

The first one is when the Indominus is going after Owen, Zach, and Gray, trying to claw them out of the souvenir shop.

Then here comes Claire (IN HEELS!!!) who throws a flare at the Indominus, leading to the arrival of old Rexy, who thunderously roars at the usurper to her throne, challenging the Indominus to a fight. Keep in mind the age differences between the two. The Indominus was only six years old and was in her prime. Rexy was anywhere from 25-35 and was considered an older lady. This would be the equivalent of Diane Lane challenging Ronda Rousey to a fight.

As expected, Rexy puts up a hell of a fight, but due to the Indominus's size, strength, youth, and the advantage of working arms, Rexy is overpowered and is just about to be killed...

...and then comes our second hero moment, where you hear two raptor barks and see Blue come charging around the corner, lowering herself into attack position and going full speed into the Indominus (to the tune of the main theme from The Lost World), giving Rexy enough time to recover and get back into the fight. The two dinosaurs tag team the Indominus, with Blue using her speed and agility to keep the Indominus busy and allow Rexy to use her brute strength to wear the Indominus down and smash it through buildings and to the lagoon, where the Mosasaur finishes it off.

As much as people hated that scene, I found it to be brilliantly done, showing an unprecedented amount of teamwork between an old dinosaur who has NEVER liked raptors and a young raptor who is an ornery little ball of psycho behavior.

The faceoff between the two after the Indominus's death where Rexy glares at Blue, then decides to walk off and let her live said it all. Blue had the old dinosaur's respect at that point.
