Hey guys.
I'm Sam I'm new here got here earlier today
I've been searching for info concerning the all mighty Mattel Hoverboard since this morning. ( Well I woke up at 2pm so whatever)
And I've came to the conclusion that there is a whole load of info about the Hoverboard. And so I've decided to make a final guide where we'd group the information onto one topic.
This is how this will work( sorry for being invasive when I'm new on the forum but I think I've got a good Idea)
On this thread we'll try and keep it clean and tidy. So only post if you've got a great question that has been answered and isn't in this guide. Also post questions which I'll edit into this post. And if you have more answers for a previously answered question, feel free to fill in and I'll edit the post here.
One thing though. This guide must remain objective. No this way is better than an other or something like that. We're not really discussing personal opinions Because that's what happened in other threads and that just makes it hard to get practical information.
Also this thread is for making a replica prop. Not a board that actually hovers.
I also have some questions to which I haven't found answers so I'll include these ones in.
I really hope all the Back to the future fans will contribute to help me make THE Guide to making your own Replica Hoverboard.
I've PMed one of the members who had some plans, as well as some guys on YT( who are quite probably on these forums) so If I get plans THey will go up onto this post.
Also I take no credit for this, most of the information is a group of what I've found here or elsewhere.
I'll start with just a couple of questions and complete as I go.
How many versions were used for the film?
Several boards were made and used, but there is mainly two types. The Lenticular hard foam one which was used when we saw it not being used, and A wooden stunt one used when the actor was riding it.
Which one should I make?
That depends really on you. A lot of people try making the lenticular one but really there is enough work to do on the hoverboard that you'd do fine with putting stickers on. Also wood has more weight to it, whereas the foam one can be rather light. This really is your choice, but remember that several models were made and were slightly different. That's the beauty of it we don't want everyone to have the same board
Should I just buy one off the internet?
If you want one quickly, have the money, then why not? On the other hand if you are like me, and the hoverboard is one of your fantasies since the first time you saw the movie, then you might want to make your own just for the extra emotional value it'll give it.
DIMENSIONS
For the size of the board a lot of people will tell you different things, the most important is to just get something that looks good.
What are the Mattel Hoverboard dimensions?
People have made them different sizes but word is that in the film they were:
28' long. 8' wide. 1 thick.
How long is the kicktail?
