The First Attempts At My Predator Halfbreed

So i started working on the halfmask for my OC Human-Pred Hybrid.
My methods are still somewhat improvised,as in no where close to any actual sculpting as ive seen on these pages, but then again that method may not be for this kind of mask.

So first, the basics concept of the halfmask is to have the physical properties of a pred (semi-formed outer jaws/madibles,pronounced scalp and of course dreads, but still keeping a human face.

I created a basic latex face mold, then shaped and attached the 'skeleton' for the mandibles out of electical wiring,so i could still bend the jaws into a desired stance

(excuse the crappy webcam pics,no camera as of yet)

next i molded and attached basic clay teeth to the tips
(wich,in hindsight may have been done better afterwards, after having carefully detailed them more :/ i'll have to do that afterwards)

Next came the flesh/muscle shaping on the jaws, and the first layers of skin
Used a sheet of plastic as a base to shape the skin inbetween the mandibles on.
After drying, removed the sheet and worked on the inside .

Continued on to give the scalp a first bit of extra mass.
More will be done afterwards still,on top of the dread 'implants'
also added a bit of basic colouring to make it easier to get a better idea of the eventual model.

So i still got a LOONG way to go,but figured i start sharing, and hopefully people could give me some pointers,or set me straight of any potential boo-boo's i'm making.
I know a hybrid doesnt exactly follow a set standard, but i'd prefer to have it clearly be a Pred Hybrid, rather than just some alien thing with some vague resemblance.

I'll use this topic for further updates as i go,tho that may be slowing down a bit,as i'm running out of Latex, and my source of it is still out of stock as of yet -__-
And so are the tubing i use to make dreads with.
Guess i'll get started with the batch i got so far

may i recommend this jaw if you wish to make another human/predator.

watch almost at the end. 1:40

but nice work man

Yummy :3

the inner mouth i kept normal as to make him lean further to the human side as far as the face goes.
Been comparing what i have so far with Pred facial structures, and i'll be adding more 'bone and muscle' to the lower jaw,so that it looks more to be one whole piece of the skull than just a protusion from the face.I need to give it that more pronounced jawbone, going straight to the side.

One thing that i already see will be tricky later on will be smoothing out the face.
The kitchen towel paper works well to smooth out most of it,and add some effect of actual skin, but i'll have to lessen that effect to even out the transition from mask to my face.

Putting more bone and muscle into the lower jaw, making the mandibles a bit more part of the skull structure.

i originaly had a gap large enough to fit my ears through, but with the latex closing the holes up a bit,and the way its looking now, i'm pondering on wether or not leaving it like this, and keeping my ears on the inside of the mask, giving them that 'internal ear' look.

small update due to the fact that i'm running out of materials.
Seems like a shopping spree is in order.

Set of 40'ish dreads ready for their slick black latex coating.

I used isolation foam tubes and heat-twisted the tips.
The coating is done with a latex/black accrylic paint mix.
smooth them out with babypowder and make them nicely black and oily again with a rubber mainenance product.

These are a lot thinner than the average pred dreads, but i intend to give him more dreads, less scalp, with a nice full pack of them.

I used a similar technique on my Testsubject,a costume i use to experiment new techniques and materials on.

Also fleshed out the left side of the face, once dried i can put some more skin onto the left mandibles.

There is a slight discoloration due to a difference in my mixture, but there will be smoother skin on top with the right tone...eventually.

Now i'm trying to work out where to make adjustments to the face opening.
The mask has a certain thickness and smoothing out the transtition from mask to my face will be tricky, even with make-up,so i have to find the right placement to hide the inevidable 'ridge'.
At the bottom,i could cut it under the chin,so the lining is hidden underneath my jaw/neck.
Fronthead will be trickier, given the adaptations still to come...
Time will tell i guess.

First Coating done.
Spread out wide to prevent the dreads from touching eachother.

Once dry,i can add a second layer to cover any greyish parts,
then comes the powdering part,to make the dreads smooth and no longer sticky,
and lastly waxing them with a rubber treatment product to get rid of the talk powder's ugly grey gleam and return their oily black looks.

Painstakingly slow work,as it has to be done piece by piece by piece, all the while gently keeping the dreads from touching each other -__-

*the things a laundry rack can be used for*

First batch of dreads powdered, oiled and ready for transplantation
3 dreads that went badly because i tried it the easy way and WASH the dreads clean of their powder.
BAD IDEA as the water loosens the latex layer from the foam, making it peel off.
NOT doing that again.

will be snooping around for more materials tommorow.
I will be needing quite some cotton balls in the near future, and i'll be rummaging through the local stores.
Saw some really nice rings for my dreads the other day.
I'll be taking one with me to try the right fit.
Store owner will be giving me 'the look' again probly.

in the meantime, working on some dread beads.
I'll be needing a LOT of these.
First set used some quick griblies to add some figure into them, copper coating on these.
I'll try and do some mix 'n matching with golden ones, and other shapes.

first tryout with these few to get an idea
