The Doctor's "journal of impossible things"

Bumping an age-old thread, but I stumbled on some interesting journals in a local stationery shop.

I wonder if the Journal might not have been made simply by filling in a purchased leather journal from Natalizia Sas di Luca Natalizia & Co? Most particularly, a journal from the Laccio series.

Have a look at this:

I think the strongest candidate is the article "464". The size is 17x24cm, which would seem to correspond very well with the size seen on-screen.
The next size up, "464 Bis" at 21x30cm (A4), is clearly too large.
The next size down, "463" at 15x21cm (A5), is also a strong candidate, but would seem to me to require that the actors have rather small hands...

Has anybody seen the actual prop IRL, or has any other firm data that nails its size down definitely?

It should also be noted that Luca Natalizia has a range of "replaceable journals" in that same product line. They're basically the same as the above, but with removable booklets. The main visual difference seems to be that the distance the leather overlaps the pages seems to be slightly greater, which, looking e.g. at the picture Whovian posted above, might suggest that BBC used one of these "replaceable" models, rather than the standard one.

In that range, it's article "773" that corresponds to the 17x24cm size, and "772" to 15x21cm.

That's as may be ... but it still wouldn't be anywhere near the highest price tag I've paid to get the correct found item to base a prop replica on...

I have recently gotten into Doctor Who (yes I know, I'm behind the times!) and just became obsessed with the Journal of Impossible Things. I contacted the Italian company as mentioned above, and they directed me to Papyrus, which is a US distributor. I believe I have found the correctly sized and colored journal here:
6x9 Dark Brown Leather Flap-Tie Journal - Journals & Notebooks - Gifts

I put an order in, and will report once I have it in my hands. It looks to be pretty close, if not exact, to the one used in the episode. What do you all think?

I understand that a British lady once made some of these. She has also made Doctor and River Song journals and Melody Malone replica dime novels. I bought a "Silence of the Dead" style illustrated River Song journal, a blank Doctor journal, and a couple of her replica Melody Malone novels...

While I was looking for her contact info, on the profile page, the gender listed was male. Just so you don't call him a her while contacting.

I'd love to make one of these now that I'm done with my grail diary. Did anyone ever figure out the correct dimensions for it?

I have no idea what the actual dimension are of the original prop, but I do own one of the Scones of Blood fanmade replicas...

The Scones of Blood: Journal of impossible things

And the replica is approximately 22.5 CM long, approximately 17 CM wide, and approximately 3 CM deep at the spine.

While I like the distressing/ink on the pages, I can't say there's anything else on that replica I care for. The binding, leather type and color, and size are all way off.

It is far better than anything I could ever produce.
